Magnus sighed in relief when he realised that Alec was calling him. He answered and put the phone to his ears, needing to hear Alec's voice.

"Alexander," Magnus breathed, "Everything okay?"

"Yes, Magnus," Alec answered, "Do you want me to call you back if you're busy or something?"

"No, honey. Any particular reason you called?"

"Not really," Alec said, "Just checking when you'll be home?"

"Just finishing up with the client now, darling. Be home in ten."

"That's great! Everything good with the client?"

"He's a bloody idiot, but yes," Magnus said, lowering his voice so that his client didn't hear him.

"Is he causing you any problems?"

Magnus could hear the defensiveness and protectiveness in Alec's voice and couldn't help but smile; Alec's love and affection for him seemed like the only bright spot in today's day of helping an idiotic client.

"No, it's fine, Alexander," Magnus reassured Alec, "He's just really demanding and he has no clue how magic and demons works and it's just pissing me off."

"Just think of home, Magnus," Alec said, knowing he couldn't really help with this issue.

"That's pretty much all I've been doing all day, Alec. Just been thinking about you and your stuttering declarations of love that I secretly think are very sexy."

"Wow, Magnus," Alec muttered, "How can you flirt when you are very clearly annoyed?"

"Because I can imagine you blushing right now and that's going to get me through these next ten minutes."

There was a silence before Alec found something to say.

"Well - see you soon, Magnus?"

"Yes. Please."

Alec gave a little laugh and Magnus added that to the list of things about Alec that got him through this day of a horrific client.

"Bye, Magnus."

"Bye, Alexander."

Both of them hung up before Magnus turned his attention back to the client. He was grinning wickedly at the demon that stood in the pentagram.

"I'll be off then, sir," Magnus called to him, "If I could please have my payment."

"I'm thinking about halving your said payment for the delay in your summoning."

"This is the quickest any warlock could summon the demon you required."

"Whatever," the client rolled his eyes, sauntered over to Magnus and handed him a cheque.

Magnus nodded, too bothered and exhausted to say anything sharp and witty. He instead created a Portal and stepped through and was immediately greeted by Alec. Magnus let out a sigh of relief as he wrapped his hands around Alec.

"Bad day?" Alec asked quietly after kissing Magnus' temple.

"That moron of a client," Magnus muttered under his breath.

"I can beat him up?" Alec offered and that caused Magnus to grin.

"No need, my handsome knight in shining armour," Magnus said and kissed Alec's neck, "I'm back here, with you, and I am now fully happy, so don't worry your pretty little head about it."

"If you say so, love."

"I do say so," Magnus murmured and closed his eyes as Alec gently swayed them. These moments after coming home from an exhausting day were the best in Magnus' opinions.
