The next morning Hama took us on a stroll on the outskirts of the village.

"Growing up in the South Pole, waterbenders are totally at home surrounded by snow and ice and seas. But as you probably noticed on your travels, that isn't the case wherever you go."

"I know! When we were stranded in the desert, I felt like there was almost nothing I could do."

"That's why you have to learn to control water wherever it exists."

"We've even used our own sweat for waterbending." Katara said smiling at me.

"It's was gross at first, but very effective." I said scratching my head sheepishly.

"That's very resourceful, girls. You're thinking like true masters. But did you know you could even pull water out of thin air?"

"No I did not. Can you demonstrate?" I asked, "Of course," she said warmly.

With quick movements of her right arm, Hama created small particles of water which grew into larger particles. Soon water was coating her fingertips then it freezes.

"You have got to keep an open mind, Katara and Amaya. There's water in places you never think about." She proceeds to fire the small daggers at a nearby tree, I looked in awe, but deep inside me thought that something is very suspicious about her. Next, we made our way to a flower field. Beautiful red flowers danced in the breeze, as little insect hopped from flower to the next.

"Wow, these flowers are beautiful." I said, staring at the flowers in awe.

"They're called fire lilies. They only bloom a few weeks a year, but they're one of my favorite things about living here. And like all plants and all living things, they're filled with water."

"We met a waterbender who lived in a swamp and could control the vines by bending the water inside." Katara chimed.

"You can take it even further." In a sharp, swiveling motion, she draws water from dozens of the surrounding fire lilies and slices a nearby rock clean through.

"That was incredible! It's a shame about the lilies, though." I said looking at the wilted flower around us.

"They're just flowers." Hama said making a shooing motion, "When you're a waterbender in a strange land, you do what you must to survive. Tonight I'll teach you two the ultimate technique of waterbending. It can only be done during the full moon, when your bending is at its peak."

Katara and I gave nervous looks at each other. "But isn't that dangerous? I thought people have been disappearing around here during the full moon."

"Oh, Katara. Three master waterbenders beneath a full moon?  I don't think we have anything to worry about." she said as we begin to make our final journey. Her words eased the fears that I had like ointment on a wound. But deep in my gut something was off about her, maybe Sokka was right somehow. The sun began to set in the far east, and the wind began to howl through the thick pine tress as we entered the forest. Suddenly she stopped, and gazed at moon.

"Can you feel the power the full moon brings?" she begins to inhale, suddenly her hunched position turned upright. I watched as her veins begin to bulge out, covering my mouth in disgust, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Could it be her? Was Hama the witch in my dream?

"For generations it has blessed waterbenders with its glow, allowing us to do incredible things! I've never felt more alive." she said in a sinister tone. She then turns to us, "What I'm about to show you, I discovered in that wretched Fire Nation prison. The guards were always very careful to keep any water away from us. They piped in dry air and had us suspended away from the ground. Before giving us any water, they would bind our hands and feet so we couldn't bend.  Any sign of trouble was met with cruel retribution.  And yet each month, I felt the full moon enriching me with its energy.  There had to be something I could do to escape. Then I realized that where there is life, there is water. The rats that scurried across the floor of my cage were nothing more than skins filled with liquid and I passed years developing the skill that would lead to my escape. Bloodbending." My eye widened in shock, "Controlling the water in another body, enforcing your own will over theirs.  Once I had mastered the rats, I was ready for the men. And during the next full moon, I walked free for the first time in decades. My cell unlocked by the very guards assigned to keep me in. Once you perfect this technique, you can control anything or anyone."
