That night we gathered around the fire. I handed out some food to the other members of the group and found myself looking over to Zuko perched up on a near by column. I raised an eyebrow in suspicion. He looks even broodier than usual. I shrugged on the matter, handing the last plate to Haru and sat next to him.

"Listen everybody, I've got some pretty bad news. I've lost my stuff." he said walking towards the group, he gaze down dejected.

Toph raised her hands, "Don't look at me, I didn't touch your stuff."

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"I'm talking about my firebending. It's gone." Zuko revealed. Silence fell on the group, then out of nowhere, Katara bursts out laughing, "I'm sorry. I'm just laughing at the irony. You know, how it would've been nice for us if you lost your firebending a long time ago."

"Well, it's not lost. It's just ... weaker for some reason."

"Maybe you're not as good as you think you are." Katara said glaring at Zuko.

"Ouch." Toph and I said in unison smirking at Katara.

" I bet it's because I changed sides."

"That's ridiculous." Katara replied.

"I don't know. Maybe it isn't. Maybe your firebending comes from rage and you just don't have enough anger to fuel it the way you used to. Amaya seemed to firebend at you when she was angry." Aang said looking in my direction.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "That was only one time Aang. And I can't firebend now even when I'm angry."

"Sooo, all we need to do is make Zuko angry. Easy enough." Sokka pokes Zuko with his sword's hilt in the head and waist several times, laughing.

"Okay, cut it out!" yelled Zuko, stopping Sokka and causing his sword to slip from his hands and land on his head. " Look, even if you're right, I don't want to rely on hate and anger anymore. There has to be another way."

"You're gonna need to learn to draw your firebending from a different source. I recommend the original source."

"How's he supposed to do that‌? By jumping into a volcano‌?" joked Sokka.

"No. Zuko needs to go back to whatever the original source of firebending is." Toph said as she continued eating her bowl of rice.

"So, is it jumping into a volcano?"

"No, Sokka." I chuckled with a smirky smile.

"For earthbending, the original benders were badgermoles. One day, when I was little, I ran away and hid in a cave. That's where I met them. They were blind, just like me.  So we understood each other. I was able to learn earthbending, not just as a martial art, but as an extension of my senses. For them, the original earthbenders, it wasn't just about fighting. It was their way of interacting with the world."

Aang gawked in amazement, "That's amazing, Toph!  I learned from the monks, but the original airbenders were the sky bison. Maybe you can give me a lesson sometime, buddy.  "

"And the original benders for water were the koi fish, Tui and La I think." I said holding my chin,

"I thought it was the moon." Katara said.

"Technically yes, but I've heard a folktale that explains it in a broader sense. The story goes that Tui and La were madly in love with each other, but it wasn't common for spirits to have an intimate relationship at that time."

"So what happened to them?" Haru asked.

I mused cupping my chin, "Well, I forgot some important parts to the story, but ultimately they gave up their spiritual self and became koi fish to keep balance."
