We landed on a small hill a few miles away from the shrine, the island was dry, nothing, but lava and dead weeds, we dismounted from Appa one by one. "You did it buddy. Nice flying" Aang said as he rubbed Appa's head, Katara approached Appa, "Aww, you must be tired," she said rubbing his belly, "No! I'm good. Refreshed and ready to fight some fire benders!" Sokka said as he stretched from all that flying. " I was talking to Appa," Katara said dryly, " Well ... I was talking to Momo," Sokka said pointing to the lemur who was obviously minding it's own business, I rolled my eyes, "Lets make a move on, the sun will be setting soon," I suggested, all agreed and made our way to the shrine that sits perfectly on a hill.
The shrine looked empty, no guards were at the entrance, we crouched behind a lower wall below the steps, "I don't see any guards," Sokka said, "Me neither," I joined. "The Fire Nation must have abandoned the temple when Avatar Roku died," Katara said, "It's almost sundown. We better hurry!" Aang said, we left our hiding spot and charge for the front entrance, while we tipped toed not to make a sound, "Wait. I think I heard something," Sokka said, we turned to see old men wearing red garbs, those must be the sages I thought, "We are the Fire Sages. Guardians of the temple of the Avatar," said the leader of the sages, "Great! I am the Avatar!" Aang said, "We know," the sage says as he inhales briskly before punching a blast of fire our direction, Aang deflects three balls of fire with his airbending, "I'll hold them off. Run!" we went to the northern side of the temple, as we made our first right Aang skids in front of us, "Follow me!" he said running, "Do you know where you're going?" Sokka asked, "Nope!" Aang says as he turns round a corner and disappears from sight, A moment passes, suddenly we when Aang skids and runs in a different direction, " Wrong way!" he yells, "Come back!" said the sage, we turn another corner and charge down the hallway. However, we reached an impasse, "Dead-end" I yelled, as Aang skids to an immediate halt. Turning around, we face the sage, who raises a hand in peace, "I don't want to fight you! I am a friend," said the sage, "Firebenders aren't our friends!"Sokka said angrily as Aang steps ahead of his friends, assuming an airbending posture.
The sage steps toward Aang , before dropping to his knees and pressing his palms to the floor in submission. "I know why you're here, Avatar," "You do?" asked Aang surprised, "Yes," said the sage, as he got up from the ground, "You wish to speak to Avatar Roku. I can take you to him." Aang was skeptical "How?" he said with a curious look, the sage then slides back a lamplight on the wall. He then places his palm on wall and focuses his firebending into this location to open a secret passage. "This way," the sage said, "Find him," said the leader sage far away, "Time is running out! Quickly," Said the sage, Aang, Katara, and I exchange looks with one another, asserting each other's belief to trust this firebender.
