It was testing day, and to set the match it was boys against us girls. Katara and I set in our water bending positions, while the boys Ainu and Sangok were lacking on theirs, Sangok shaking a bit.
"Are you ready?" Pakku said as he held up on hand, "Fight!" as he chopped through the air.
Ainu blasted two streams of water with lightning speed, I took both blasts and bend a water gimbal and redirect it straight towards him knocking him off his feet. Sangok then summons a globule of water, freezes it into an iceball, and fires it at her. Katara, however, is quick to melt the iceball and, turning around swiftly, bends a wave of water at him, which she proceeds to freeze, thus suspending Sangok in an icy trap. We both gave a high five.
"Nice try, Pupils Sangok, and Ainu. A couple of more years and you two might be ready to fight a sea sponge," He unfreezes the ice; Sangok falls to the ground dazed, "Would anyone care for a rematch with Katara and Amaya? "
All the students were scared stiff, even the most advanced waterbenders, and who could blame them, "Girls, you've both advanced more quickly than any student I've ever trained. You have proven that with fierce determination, passion and hard work, you can accomplish anything," He turns to Aang irritably, "Raw talent alone is not enough. Pupil Aang!"
Aang stops bending at the sound of his name while Momo lands on his head. "Yes, Master Pakku?"
"Care to step into the sparring circle? I figure since you've found time to play with house pets, you must have already mastered waterbending," Pakku said sarcastically,
"I wouldn't say mastered, but check this out," He twists around, bending some snow around him to make a snowman of himself, which Momo knocks over, Pakku and Katara wear similar expressions of disdain, while I cock my head to the side in confusion.
A few minutes later Katara and I were heading to the market when suddenly black snow rained down. Then the sound of the palace drums can be heard for an emergency. We quickly ran inside the main building.
Uncle Arnook stands before the people, his face full of dread. But kept his composure.
"The day we have feared for so long has arrived. The Fire Nation is on our doorstep. It is with great sadness I call my family here before me, knowing well that some of these faces are about to vanish from our tribe, but they will never vanish from our hearts. Now, as we approach the battle for our existence, I call upon the great spirits. Spirit of the Ocean! Spirit of the Moon! Be with us! I'm going to need volunteers for a dangerous mission,"
Sokka rises from his seat "Count me in!"
"Sokka," Katara said.
"Be warned, many of you will not return, come forward to receive my mark if you accept the task,"
Uncle Arnook paints the men on their foreheads. Sokka steps forward and Arnook paints the same three marks. While Sokka was walking away, I looked to Yue, her eyes were closed, as one tear escaped her eyes. After the meeting was over, I quickly made my way to Yue quarters. I knocked on the door.
"Hey Yue,"
"Who is it?"
"Me Amaya,"
"Oh, come in,"
I opened the door to find Yue's eyes were red and puffed up. "Is everything alright?" I asked,
"Yeah, everything's fine,""Okay, so I heard that you're getting married,"
Yue gave a exhausted smile, "So who is the lucky boy?"
"Well....it's.....it's....Hahn,"
I was stunned, by her sudden revelation.
