It's been weeks

Molly

I blink my eyes a couple of times and the light really burns. I must have had a really decent sleep, Charles was chatting away to me I remember hearing him. I reach my arm out to grab my phone and I hit something plastic and hard. I squint my eyes, I'm in a hospital bed?? What happened? My eyes are slowly adjusting to the room, first thing I notice is that I'm on my own. Then it hits me that I can't breathe due to something I'm my throat. Some machine starts beeping and I claw at the tube in my throat. Medical staff suddenly rush in the room "she is fighting her intubation, she is awake" one of them exclaims as he removes the tube from my throat. I start coughing and my throat feels beyond sore. "Hello Molly, you are at The Royal Infirmary in Bristol, you were involved in an accident in Barcelona do you remember?" It all comes back to me, James hitting me with his car "I remember being hit by a car" I tell the doctor "that's good, you suffered some extreme injuries including many broken bones in your legs and arms, your bowel was perforated and you had a bleed on your brain" I take in a deep breath "okay, is there last issues?" The doctor shakes his head "you had quite a few lacerations" I'm confused "sorry cuts on your face and arms that will leave scaring but nothing major" he smiles at me "everything else has already healed" how has it healed overnight? "How long have I been here?" He looks at the other staff in the room "3 months" he tells me solemnly "you have been in a coma due to your brain bleed, we weren't sure you would wake up" they didn't think i would wake up "okay wow" he shoots me a reassuring smile "we are happy to have you back Miss Lanes" I nod my head "do my family know?" He laughs "they usually arrive at 9am but it's only 8.30 now" I need to know who he means "who is they?" The nurse takes my hand "your mother and your boyfriend" oh Charles he didn't need to keep coming "Lando I believe his name is?" She looks at me "what my boyfriend?" She shakes her head "no Lando also comes everyday unless they are away on a race weekend I think?" I nod "yeah they would have to go for that! Shit I missed the Monaco GP" I exclaim my brain doing the math, I have missed so much. "We will leave you to rest till they arrive, we will call them if they aren't here at their usual time"

Charles

I pull up at the hospital like I do most days, but I have to say I'm losing hope that she will wake up. The doctors had no answers as to why she hasn't seeing as her bleed has corrected itself and her brain activity was what they expected. I think I've lost her and I cannot forgive that fucker for taking her from me. Mols mum shakes me "Charles we need to head in" I nod my head and undo my seatbelt "come on mate" Lando says standing outside my car door "who knows she might be awake!" He has been optimistic this entire time and I don't know how he has managed it. The route through the hospital has become so familiar that I can do it without thinking "good morning" I mumble to ward receptionist not stopping on my way to her. There is loads of activity in her room and I panic that she is gone "what's happening?" The doctor turns around and smiles at me "Molly here was just asking some questions" she was what and I look past the doctor and see her eyes, they are more beautiful than I remember "Mon amour?" She smiles at me "Hey baby" I can't help the tears that spill down my cheeks "your awake" I rush to her side taking her hand like normal and she gives it a squeeze "I'm sorry for scaring you" she's apologising? "Don't be so silly none of this was your fault, I'm just glad you are back with us" i gesture to her mum and Lando and her eyes light up "Mum?" She gestures for her and they embrace "I would never leave any of you" I hear her mutter "come here Norris" he practically skips over and pulls her into a hug "I'm never letting you out of my sight again" he tells her causing a laugh "I don't think you would manage that?" He scoffs "well perhaps not but I have Charles to help" rolling my eyes I kiss her cheek "I've missed you so so much" she frowns "it still feels like Barcelona for me" I understand "I know Mon Ange, I just needed you to know" she smiles at me "tell me what I've missed"

George

"She's awake" lando tells me and I feel the relief wash over me "I will be there in an hour" and I hang up not needing anymore information. I've missed my best friend and I can't believe that she was asleep for 3 months. I know Charles nearly lost all hope so I'm glad she is back with us! I'm sure that everyone else is as well!

Once I finally pull up in the hospital car park I rush through the halls knowing my way to her room. I can see Lando's curly hair as he is sat at the end of her bed "Squirt?" I question quietly as I enter the room "Hey Georgie" she smiles at me and I feel my heart flutter "I'm so glad you are awake, it hasn't been the same without you" she frowns "I heard I missed a lot, including your first P10!" I chuckle "and Charles P1 finish in Monaco" she shrugs "we all know that car is capable again, I'm more impressed with you" Charles acts offended "mon amour how could you!" He jokes "I am really proud of you, and I'm gutted I missed it"

Molly

It's been 5 days since I woke up and I'm finally allowed to go home. Charles and Lando and picking me up at 9.30 once my discharge papers have been signed. It feels strange that I haven't been home in over 3 months. Lando packed me a bag of clothes and dropped them off yesterday and he did well he packed one of Charles jumpers and some of my gymshark leggings to wear home. It was nice to not be in PJs, and I'm glad he went with comfy. This will be the first time I see my face in a mirror I've been avoiding it as the doctor said I have some scaring. Taking a deep breath I steady myself at the mirror in the bathroom, there is only one obvious scar and it actually on my neck. I let out a sigh of relief, I look like me! I step out of the bathroom and see both of my boys waiting for me "Hey" I mutter "you excited to come home?" Charles asks me "I am although it feels weird that I haven't been there in over 3 months!" He laughs "well it's pretty much the same as you left it!" I roll my eyes "you know what I mean" Lando picks up my bags "come on you two i can't wait to see the back of this hospital" I almost forgot that hospitals freak him out.

Arriving home does make me relax, Charles unlocks the front door and we all wander inside "I'm surprised by how clean it is, Lando said he was here all the time" he nudges me "don't be rude" he sticks his tongue out at me. I take a seat on the sofa "when did the doctor say I can return to work?" I ask Charles who I knew would be paying more attention than me "well he said you will feel weak for a little while and that it will depend mostly on how you are feeling" I roll my eyes "well looks like I'm joining you both at training" Charles laughs harshly "absolutely not, I will train you but you aren't strong enough yet to join us again, you lost a lot muscle mass and weight" I am still struggling to eat much as my body was used to being fed through a tube "okay but how long?" Charles shakes his head "a few weeks? Depends on you and what Williams can do to support you" I nod my head, I will do the administrative duties that I can manage from home with Sam stepping in at the actually race week next "which race is next?" I ask the room "Hungary, it's this weekend" Lando answers "okay cool, I will give Williams a ring and take on my working from home duties" I know Charles wants to argue but this is what's best for me "I need to keep my mind busy" he nods "Alex can come stay with you whilst we are away unless there is sickness in the Red Bull Team before the weekend" I smile I've missed Alex, he wasn't able to come when I woke up as he is racing in DTM but they are already on their summer break. I still couldn't believe it was July and the summer break starts next weekend "Spa is a month from now right?" Charles nods "I'm going to focus on being back property for then" neither of them disagree with me "we are just happy to have you with us again" Lando states giving me a shy smile.
