Big changes

I need to make the decision of leaving McLaren, but first I need to try and see if there is another role for me to take at a new team. I won't have my skills overlooked due to my personal life, I'm good at my job and I don't feel like they are looking at that in their decision. Lando called Zak and tried to reason with him but with no success. I have been speaking to my fellow POs and it's seems there might be a position for me at red bull with Alex or at Williams with George. Both boys want me to work with them but I'm unsure of the move. I think I want to find a reason to stay at McLaren but I still feel unsure about staying.

We are flying out to Portugal today for the GP at Portimao. I've already handed all my duties to Helen who is currently seated with Lando on the flight to finish his schedule because she was behind. I'm sat with a few of the mechanics including James and Callum. They laughed at me on take off due to my little freak outs but I coped okay on my own. Lando kept looking over and asking if I was okay and I just nodded. James and Cal kept me company which was lovely. I received an email outlining my duties and I found out that Jon requested for me to help him which came as a surprise. I will be helping bring him meals and arrange his kit and basically be his personal waiter. This isn't the position for me to take with him.

I'm hurting over being demoted and I can't handle being Lando's PA it's awkward and he pretty much refuses to request anything. I'm thinking over my offers from Red Bull and Williams and both are to be the Press Officer for either George or Alex . I just get paid more at Red Bull. I reckon I will go and work with George as we have always been close and it would be nice to have more time with him but I'm concerned Alex will get offended. I'm walking down the paddock and stop Charles "Hey Lechair" I say approaching him "what are you doing this end of the paddock?" He asks giving me a quick hug "I'm actually trying to sort out my new job" he looks at me "new job mon ange?" He asks "yeah I have been demoted at McLaren due to my relationship with Lando being a distraction with the media. I'm now his PA but he is pretty much refusing to ask me to get him anything" Charles looks surprised "I cannot believe, where are you going to work?" He questions me "both Alex and George have said I can move and be their PO" Charles shakes his head "come and be mine?" He asks "I already asked Carlos and he said there were no positions at the moment" Charles laughs "in his team, Mia is going on maternity in the next two weeks and I've been struggling to find her replacement as she isn't going to return back full time" my eyes widen "you need a PO? Not moving someone to fit me in?" I ask "nope she is about to have her baby and the role needs filling indefinitely" this would be perfect but I know Lands won't like it, I bite my lip "let me talk to the team and we can get you a formal offer? Then you can make your decision?" He questions "okay Charles that would be great" he grins "I need to go now but I'm looking forward to working with you" he tells me and I stand shocked.

I walk back down to McLaren and spot Lando and Helen at an interview. I give him a thumbs up and I walk into the garage. Jon sees me and smiles "hey Mols, could you grab Lando's water bottle and his snack from the fridge" I nod my head and go on search for his chicken wrap. Once I collect the items and re enter the garage I spot Lando sat with Will "here you go" I say popping his items down "thanks Mols, I've missed you today" I feel like crying "me too, I've got another potential job offer" he looks at me expectantly "what team?" He asks "Ferrari" I quickly tell him "I thought Carlos said he couldn't add you to his team" I shake my head "he can't it would be as Charles PO as Mia is going on maternity leave but isn't returning to her role after" I say and see Lando's face drop "I'm not sure how I feel about this Mols" he tells me unsure "other people would be demoted at Williams and Red Bull as they are doing me a favour at least this way no one is getting displaced" I say he frowns "I get it, are you getting a formal offer" I nod "I will make my decision once I've read through them all" he smiles "I'm glad you aren't rushing anything, I know this situation isn't ideal and I'm really sorry but I think you would be an asset to any team" I grin as Will clears his throat "Mols I didn't realise you want to leave" he says frowning "I've been demoted due to my relationship with Lando distracting the press" he shakes his head "how stupid, you are a fantastic PO" I smile "cheers will, I appreciate it" I tell him "you sound like Lando" he laughs and I roll my eyes "whichever job it is means I won't live with Lands though" and I feel my boyfriend sigh next to me "I hadn't considered that" I frown "it will be tricky" but I know we will make it work!

We've had a decent weekend so far but it only matters on race day! Which is today, there is a strange mood in the garage. I head to Lando's room with his breakfast, I give the door a knock "Hey Lands" he smiles at me as I enter "you were out early" he says pulling me into a hug "I had a meeting with Binotto" he looks at me with wide eyes "they really want me on the team, he said I would be an asset" Lando smiles "at least that understand your worth!" He says "I wouldn't have to move out of ours either, he isn't bothered about our relationship but we would both need to sign NDAs" he nods "Anything else?" I pause "I would need to go to maranello 4 times a month but everything else can be done remotely" he nods "that's not too bad" I agree "it would work, if you are okay with me working with Charles" I will never do anything that would hurt him " i trust you Mols, and this is the best move for your career" I pull him in and kiss him "I will let them know after the race" he grins "you seem happier now you have a new job" I sigh "I loved my role and I don't want to lose that" he nods "it's also weird having you as PA it feels more like colleagues and I don't like it" he tells me "we can still fly to race weekends together and spend time together" I feel happy and I know this is the right decision.

The race goes badly for Lando with a 13th place finish but it was decent for Daniel finishing in 6th so a mixed bag. I'm not needed anymore for post race interviews am I so I decide to head to Ferrari. I pull my sweatshirt on and walk down the paddock. Immediately I spot Charles "Hey Lechair! Well done today!" He smiles at me "it was a pretty decent race for me" I hug him "I'm going to be working with you from now on!" He gives me a fist bump "Now every race weekend shall be a good one" I'm glad he is happy to have me "hopefully it can be good fun!" He grins "have you told McLaren yet?" I shake my head "well then let's tell Binotto" he leads me into the garage straight towards my future boss "ciao Molly ti unirai a noi? (Are you going to be joining us?)" I smile and nod my head "Penso che la Ferrari sarebbe perfetta per me e viceversa (I think Ferrari will be the perfect fit for me and vice versa" he grins at me "it's good you can speak fluent Italian, it will really help! Welcome to the team Miss Lanes" I give him an elbow bump as we aren't in the same bubble "I can't wait to get started, I will speak with McLaren and let you know when I can begin" he smiles "sounds good to me" Charles speaks up "it will be a great team now" and him and mattia walk off.

I'm nervous once I reach the McLaren garage, I need to find Andreas ASAP. I spot Lando chatting with Will and Jose "Hey guys!" Lando gives me a knowing look "how's everything?" I smile "all sorted, have you seen Andreas anywhere?" He grins at me "in the briefing room I believe" he lets me know before kissing my forehead "good luck" he tells me. I wander through the garage across to the hospitality building. I spot Andreas "Hi Andreas, mind if we have a quick word?" He gives me a look "is this about your new job role because I can't move you back" I feel like laughing "it is related however I wanted to let you know I have found a new position" he scrunches his eyebrows "new team?" He asks and I nod "Ferrari" his brows raise "thats impressive Lanes" I want to roll my eyes "they said that I will be an asset to the team" he smiles "I'm sorry you couldn't be that here, it was necessary to follow the steps we did" I know this isn't true "team first and always, but I no longer feel like part of the team. Do I need to work a notice period? I feel like I'm not a necessity" he shakes his head "I'm happy for you to finish your time with the team today if that's what you want" I nod my head "my time here is done, this was my family but now I don't feel like I belong" he nods "I'm sorry this has happened this way, thank you for your service to McLaren" I thank him before heading back to the garage.  This is it my last few hours with the team.
