Waking up I feel silk sheets underneath me and I'm lying on a bed.
How am I in a bed when I remember last night I fell asleep on the lounge on top of the roof while I was with Chad?
There's a slight knock on the door and I look over at it. "Come in," the door opens revealing my sister.
Kat walks over to the bed and plonks herself next to me. "How was the night with Chad?"
"Good, why?" Frowning I try to recall if there was something I should be worried about, but comes to mind. "Did something happen and I'm not aware of it?"
She throws her head back and laughs. "You don't remember Chad carrying back to the house and putting you to bed?"
"No, all I remember is falling asleep on the lounge outside and then nothing until I woke up in bed. I was wondering how I got here."
A smile spreads across her face. "Last night after you fell asleep Chad brought you in and put you in bed. He pulled the covers over you before closing the door and letting you sleep. It's the first time I've seen him like this with anyone and you seem to be bringing the caring side out of him more."
He cared about people before I came into the picture and I know he'll continue to do it after I'm out of it.
Bumping my hips against my sister I say. "Whatever. Let's get breakfast in starving."
She throws her head back and laughs. "You sure know how to ruin a perfectly good moment."
Placing my hand on my stomach I say. "The baby wants food and so do I. I bet you need something to eat. Maybe, pickles."
She scrunches up her nose. "That's what I had when Mia was born. This time I'm craving ice cream most of the time. Chocolate or bubblegum. Speaking of ice cream I need to get myself a bowl."
"No, you're not. Before you eat dessert you're going to have a proper breakfast. That's my orders."
Just then the door to the bedroom across from us opens and Chad steps out wearing a pair of jeans and a singlet. He's showing off his perfectly chiseled body.
Why the hell is he teasing me with this?
I openly stare at him and a smirk appears on his face.
Jack ass.
Kat leans close to my ear and whispers. "You've got a little something on your face." I start wiping it before she laughs at me and says. "IT'S DROOL." Really loudly gaining Chad's attention."
There's nothing on my face and I glare at my sister. "Bitch," I mumble before high tailing it towards the dining room.
When I enter the room a mouth watering smell hits me like a ton of bricks and my stomach growls.
I'm looking forward to this breakfast.
Evelyn is sitting at the head of the table and she turns towards me. "Are you going to stand there all morning, sweetheart?"
"Nah," I shake my head before moving towards the table. "I was admiring the assorted meals placed on the table. This looks lovely." I take a seat beside her.
She places her hand in mine. "Today I'm going to show Kat and you around the vineyard. I want you to get the feel of the place."
"Why do you want us to get the feel of the place, Evelyn? Are you okay?"
She laughs. "I'm perfectly fine. However," she takes on a serious voice and adds. "I don't want to leave the vineyard in my kids hands. I know they'll ruin the reputation of the company I built."
"What about your Grandkids?"
"They haven't shown interest in the place ever. While Sebastian has, but he has his own company to run and I can't ask him to give his up to run this. I want to keep this place in the family and you're part of that."
"I'm not related to you though, Evelyn. My sister is, not me."
She sighs. "When I met you on the elevator months ago I knew you were going to be someone special to this family and it turns out you are. You know Chad isn't related to me either, but I think of him as my Grandchild. He's done a lot for me over the years and I'm thankful to have him in my life. The same goes for you."
Just then the door opens, revealing, Kat, Sebastian and Chad. They take their seats at the table.
Evelyn places her hand on mine. "We'll continue this when I have Kat and you together." She turns her attention to everyone. "I'm going to spend a couple of hours with Kat and Eliza."
Sebastian takes his wife's hand. "Okay, but I get the afternoon with her. I want to take her out for a picnic."
That's sweet of him.
Leaning over the table I grab the spoon for the eggs and put it on my plate. I put bacon and toast on the plate. Before I start eating the food.
We have small talk over breakfast. As soon as we're finished the table is cleaned and then Evelyn tells us to brush our teeth before meeting her in front of the house.
I head up to my room and search my bag for my tooth brush. Once I find it I start brushing my teeth.
After I finish I head back down the stairs and head towards the front door. When I get there I see Evelyn place her hand over my sisters stomach and a smile spreads across her face. "I can't wait to meet the new addition to the family."
I step to the side and watch them for a bit. While I'm not paying too much attention Chad sneaks up on me and whispers on my ear. "What are you doing?"
"Giving Evelyn and Kat some time alone. They deserve to talk without me being there. It's the first time I've seen them talk in a long time."
Sebastian stops next to us and watches his Grandmother too. "How long have they been like that?"
"I just walked out and saw them." I tell Sebastian. "Did I make the right decision about giving them space?"
He smiles at me. "You did. Grandma hasn't been like this since Mia was born. It doesn't matter how many Great Grandchildren she has, she tends to have favourites and they were our children." Sebastian's eyes land on my stomach and he adds. "She loves both you and your child and that's something you don't see often with her. She never showed affection to any of her Grandkids until I was born and then my younger sister Harper."
I haven't met Harper. This is the first time I've heard about her.
After a couple of minutes Sebastian opens the door to talk to his grandmother.
Chad pulls me into the living room and says. "Harper died close to her eighteenth birthday. The family don't talk about it because it's painful for them. It's been ages since he's spoken about her."
"Eliza, are you coming out?" Kat says. "Grandma and I are waiting for you."
