November

Today is Thanksgiving and I've been in the kitchen all day helping Mom cook the turkey and make roasted potatoes and other side dishes for the celebration.

After a couple of hours in the kitchen, Mom starts to look like shit and I walk over to her. "Mom, you need to rest. Go to the pool house and sleep for a couple of hours. I'll come and get you once the turkey is nearly done."

Mom kisses the top of my head. "I love you, Eliza." She looks at the clock and says. "You're sisters will be here in a couple of hours. Let them help you. I don't want you hurting yourself or the baby." She places her hand on my stomach. "I want to meet this little one before..." she cuts herself off.

"Before what, Mom? I know you've been keeping something from me since the hospital visit before I moved here. Please, tell me what's going on."

"Promise me you won't tell your siblings? I don't mind Chad knowing about it. I know that man will help you through what I'm going to tell you."

Grabbing Mom's hand I lead her towards the living room and we sit on the couch. "I've known for months that something was wrong, but I didn't want to push you to tell me what it was."

A slight smile appears on her face. "Out of all my children, you were the only one that knew something was wrong. However, I think you told Kat you're suspicions. Have you told her anything else?"

Chad walks into the living room at that moment and looks between my mother and me. "Am I interrupting something?"

"No, you're not." Mom looks at him. "You should hear this too. Eliza is going to need you when she hears my news. You're the only one that keeps her from falling over the edge."

He walks over to the couch and moves me onto his lap. "This way you won't be able to get away from me."

"All I told her was that something was wrong with you, but I didn't know what and that I was going to wait for you to talk to me." After I say that Dad walks into the living room.

He looks at the couch where I'm sitting on Chad and Mom on the opposite couch to us. "Are you about to tell her?"

"Yes," Dad moves over to Mom and sits next to her on the couch. Wrapping his arms around her. He kisses the top of her head. Letting her know that he's there for her.

This isn't good if she's needing strength from my father.

Mom looks at me without moving her eyes off of my face. "I have a brain tumour. It's inoperable."

"Why?" I stay calm for now, as I take her words in carefully. Then I burst out. "Why the FUCK didn't you tell me? I've taken care of you for a long time. You know I would have been there for you."

She stands up and moves towards me. Wrapping her arms around me. "I didn't tell you because you had a lot of things to deal with yourself. You've grown from you're experience and you are in a stable relationship that makes me proud to have you as my daughter. You've been through enough and adding this to your plate isn't something I wanted."

"How long?"

"They gave me six months to a year. I'm going to get worst, sweetheart. Being close to my children will make things easier." She looks around the house before adding. "I won't allow your siblings to meet me here. Everything will be held at Kat's. I need to get her to organise a day where I tell them what's going on." She steps away from me. "I'm going to bed. See you when the Turkey is done."

I watch as she walks out of the house with my father closely behind her. He wraps his arms around her before opening the door and walking out.

Chad pulls me into his arms and kisses the top of my head. "Are you okay?"
