Knock, Knock, knock. I look towards the front door. "I better get that. It's Aunt Nina."
"Nina," Mia yells. Before running towards the front door.
"Mia, don't open the door until I get there," I say, as I make my way down the hall. As I get closer to the door that's when Mia opens it and standing on the other side is my sister with her son, Kaleb."
Nina smiles at me as she enters the house. "This place is amazing. I had to park my car at Kat's and she told me about the shortcut to yours." She places her son on the ground. "Ronnie came by this morning and left Kaleb with me. We're spending time away from each other at the moment. It's giving me clarity that I should do something with my life and not wait for my husband to come back for me."
"Do you want to go back to Ronnie?"
She lets out a deep breath. "I love him, Liz. He was the first man to take notice of me. Getting married may have been an accident for us. I fell in love with him during the time we've been together. The night he kicked me out..."
Moving over to her I pull her into my arms. "It's okay."
She shakes her head. "No, it's not. He was having a bad time and I was stupid enough to walk out of the house. Where he locked me out. He didn't expect me to walk out on him and our son."
Chad walks down the hall with Logan behind him. He smiles at my sister. "Hi, Nina. It's good to see you again."
"You too, Chad. How are things going with you and my sister?"
Chad pulls me into his arms. "It's going great. I'm one lucky guy to have her in my arms whenever I want." he kisses the top of my head. "I'll get the kids out of your way." He picks Kaleb off the floor and carries him outside.
Nina looks me over carefully. "Is there something you want to talk about?"
Running my hands through my hair I look at my sister and say. "I think I need Kat's advice on this too. we'll talk about it when she comes over."
Just then the door opens revealing my other sister. Kat puts her coat in the closet before walking over to us. "Where's Chad? Sebastian wants to know."
"He's round the back with the kids."
Kat tells her husband where to find Chad. She closes the door and then hugs me. "How's my favourite little sister doing?"
"I'm good."
"What about you, Nina. How are you?"
"Good, however, I'm waiting for Eliza to answer the question I asked before you came in." She turns her attention to me. Waiting for me to say something.
"Fine," I throw my hands up in the air. "Chad hasn't fully moved in yet. He's got a few things in the bedroom. He spends most of his time here, but other times he goes home. Do you think he's having second thoughts about living with me?"
"No," Kat says. "that would never cross his mind. Maybe, it has something to do with the way you asked him. It was out of the blue wasn't it?"
"Yeah, but I thought he would take me up on the offer right away and not leave me hanging onto hope that he'd move in with me."
Nina looks me in the eyes and says. "Chad isn't Austin. I can tell that both men loved you, but Austin's one way to get revenge on you for hurting him. With Chad, it's true love. He can't take his eyes off you. Whether you're in the same room as him or not. Ronnie used to be like that to me. Then he decided that getting into Cassie's pants was more thrilling than me. I don't think he's slept with her since we've gotten together. I know he wants to have a relationship with his kids. Which is why he doesn't cross the line with her."
"Are you sure about that? You're not around him all the time and that could have been the moment he slipped." I lead the way to the kitchen. "Let's make sure that Mom's turkey isn't burning."
As we walk into the kitchen I see Mom bending over and pulling the turkey out of the oven. She carries it over to the tray and sets it on the table. "This looks good. Thanks for taking over dinner while I had a rest. It was much needed." She tells me truthfully.
"You're welcome. I'll set the table." I move over to the cupboard and pull out plates for our family.
Nina looks over my shoulder and counts the plates. "Shouldn't there be more plates? Isn't Chloe, our brothers and their families coming?"
Putting the plates on the table I look at her and say. "No, I'm done with playing their games and getting treated badly every time I see them. My child and I don't need them in our lives. The people I want with me are the ones in this room. Including you Nina. You've shown me that you've grown up and forgive me for what happened while you were in school."
"Nothing happened. Besides, you taking on the role of Mom. Without you, I don't know where I would be. Having you at homemade things easier for me. I didn't have to take on anything extra and I could go out all the time." She takes the plates from me and walks out the door.
Mom wraps her arms around me. "I'm proud of you. Giving Nina another chance. It's a shame that the rest won't behave themselves."
"At the end of the day, Mom. It's their loss. That I'm not in their lives. I'm not going to easily let them in. It's going to take a lot for them to get my forgiveness. Is dinner ready?"
"Yes, it is. I'll get some drinks out of the fridge and put them on the table."
When I walk out of the house I see my father talking to Chad as he plays with Kaleb. Feeling my eyes on him he turns towards me and smiles.
Taking a seat next to Kat I start talking to her while we wait for the men to take a seat. Before we dig in Mom says. "Let's say what we're thankful for." Mom looks around the table and smiles at us all. "I'm thankful for my family."
Dad pulls Mom into his side and looks into her eyes. "I'm thankful that my wife is still with me."
"Aw," I say. "That's so sweet Dad."
Chad squeezes my hand as he looks into my blue eyes. "I'm thankful that Eliza chose to be my girlfriend." He leans down and pecks my lips. "I love you," he says, before pulling back.
Placing my hand on my stomach I say. "I'm thankful that I have a healthy child growing inside me and having the support of my family and boyfriend."
Chad places his hand on my stomach. He places a kiss on it and says. "I'm looking forward to meeting you little one."
Kat looks around the table. "I'm thankful that I get to spend another year with my family and extend it by one more."
It looks like my siblings and I are thankful for the little ones we carrying and how they will change our lives once they are here.
Sebastian looks over at his best friend. "I'm thankful that my best friend is ready to settle down with a beautiful woman. One that's going to challenge him."
We skip the kids and go straight to Nina. She smiles at us and says. "I'm thankful that my sister has forgiven me for all the stuff I've put her through all these years."
After that Dad carves the turkey and places a couple of pieces on each of our plates.
