Chad's POV

My phone starts to vibrate on the nightstand and I reach across and grab it. Looking at it I see 'Bas' flash across my screen and I answer it.

Me: Hey, Bas. What do you need?

Sebastian: I'm picking my wife and sister-in-law up. Can you help me move the boxes into the pool house for Eliza? With her being pregnant I want to help her out as much as I can.

A smile spreads across my face.

This is the first time I'm seeing him do something for someone who hasn't asked for help. He usually waits for someone to ask before doing it and now he's asking me to help out.

Me: Sure, what time do you want me around there?

Sebastian: I think 2:30 pm will be fine. I'll call you when I leave the house though.

Me: Sounds good. I'll be at the country club for a bit as I have a game against Logan.

Sebastian: Damn, it's a shame I'm missing that game. I would love to see you kick his ass like you have done dozens of times.

Me: I'll schedule another round for next weekend. How does Saturday sound?

Sebastian: It's fine with me. I'm sure the ladies would have fun here too. We'll invite them along too.

Me: Your wife will end up by the pool like usual. It's a shame she doesn't like golf. Do you think Eliza will play?

Sebastian: I'm not sure if she knows how too, but I can always ask when I get to the house. I have to go. Bye, Chad.

He hangs up on me before I can reply.

Ding,

A message pops up on my screen.

Logan: I'll be late for the country club. My daughter swallowed a nickel and is throwing up a lot. I just took her to the hospital.

Me: We should reschedule the game for next week. Sebastian wants to play as well.

Logan: Are you sure?

Me: Yes, they need you right now and the game isn't that important.

Logan: I was hoping to two business with you though. However, I think next week will be better so I can run something through Bastian as well.

Me: Great, I'll see you then.

There's a knock on the door and I walk over to it. Opening it I see my mother standing on the other side with Dad.

A smile spreads across Dad's face. "I was hoping you'd still be here son. We have a few things to talk about."

"Okay," stepping aside I let my parents in and we head over to the couch. I sit across from them. "What's going on?"

Dad leans forward. "Son, I want to talk to you about, Kat's sister."

"What about her?"

"I would like to meet her before she starts working for the company. I'd like to see the type of person she is and how she'd be an asset to the company."

Looking between my parents I ask. "Why are you so interested in her? When I hired Kat you didn't care, but now with Eliza, it's a different story."

"That's because you weren't interested in her. Besides, she's married to your best friend. You're mother told me that there could be something between you two in the future and I'd like to meet her before I die."

Is he keeping something from me?

Moving closer to him I ask. "Dad, are you keeping something from me?"

"Yes," he places his hand on my shoulder. "I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and it's advanced."

"What about treatment? Isn't there something that you can go through to help you?"

A smile spreads across his face. "I've been put in a clinical trial for my advanced cancer. There's not a 100% guarantee that the trial will work, but I want to keep living."

Hugging him I say. "I love you, Dad."

"I love you too, son. In a couple of weeks, I'll be starting the trial. Can you check on your mother from time to time?"

"I will." Turning towards Mom I add. "If you ever get lonely you're more than welcome to swing by the office and see me."

"I'll do that. What are your plans for today?"

"I'm going to help Seb bring his sister-in-laws things into the pool house. The girls have been told to take it easy and that means not carrying heavy boxes anywhere."

Dad stands up and holds his hand out to Mom. "We're going to the country club. I want to see if any guys want to play a round of golf."

"I was supposed to be there today, but Logan's daughter swallowed a nickel and now she's in the hospital."

"That's terrible," Mom says. "I hope the girl is alright."

"I'm sure she'll be fine. I'll have around with you, Dad. You can show me some of your tricks. I need to win against Logan next weekend. That guy always takes money from me."

Dad throws his head back and laughs. "Of course he wins against you. He knows the ins and outs of playing this game. You should go shooting with him and see who can win at that."

It's going to be fun playing with Dad. It's been years since I've been to the country club with him and Mom.

Grabbing my keys off the hook by the front door I turn towards my parents and say. "I'm ready." I open the door for them and wait for them to walk out. I lock the door and move over to the elevator where Mom is pushing the button.

She keeps pressing it. "How long does it take before this thing opens? At least in our building, we have a private elevator that stays on our floor for when we want to go out instead of waiting."

Looking at the lift I see that it's on the floor below mine. "Mom, it's about to open." The door opens and we step inside.

I press the button for the basement and it takes us down. When we get to the basement I walk over to my car and jump in.

My parents climb into their car and pull out of the parking spot.

I follow my parents as we all head in the direction of the country club.

It takes forty minutes for us to get there and we park in the reserved spots. I climb out of my car and head over to my parents.

Dad holds the door open for Mom and she steps out. Taking his hand in hers.

They walk up the stairs and start talking to friends that are there.

Jesse is standing with his parents and a smile appears on his face when he sees me. "Hey, Chad. It's been a while since we saw each other."

"It has. I think we saw each other at the boxing ring when Sebastian knocked you out for trying to take his girl."

He looks away before trying to change the subject, but his parents ask questions about it and he gets uncomfortable.

I answer the questions for him and he excuses himself before I reveal some of the worst things he's done.
