Shattered Part II - 50

After dinner, I climb out of my seat and head to the kitchen. I start to clean the dishes, but before I can load the dishwasher Mom walks into the kitchen with Chad behind her. she crosses her arms and looks at me. "Eliza get out of the kitchen. you should be on bed rest."

"I don't want to go to bed. I want to be with my family." I lean against the kitchen table and look at Mom. "Please, can I stay up longer?"

"No," she shakes her head. Looking behind me she says. "Chad take her to bed. You should stay the night. You've had a few too many and I don't want you to drive home. stay with my daughter for the night and make sure she rests."

She's not being subtle with what she wants and that's putting chad and me together.

"it's time to go to bed, pretty girl." he scoops me up in arms and carries me through the dining room. looking at everyone at the table he says. "I'm taking Eliza to bed. If anyone wants to visit, Eliza before bed. The door is open." He carries me through the house and out the door. we walk by the pool and enter the pool house a couple of seconds later.

Kicking my feet out I say. "You can put me down now. I'm going to my room to change. Can you give me a couple of minutes before walking into the room?"

"Okay," he sits down on the couch. Turning the tv on and there's a football on. He kicks his feet up and starts screaming at the game.

Grabbing my clothes I head to the bathroom and get changed in my pyjamas. Then brush my hair and teeth before going to bed and climbing in. grabbing my phone from in my purse I send chad a message.

Me: I'm in bed.

Chad: Good, do you know how to play go fish?

Me: Of course. It's one of my favourite games to play.

Chad: prepare to lose. I'm the champion of this game.

Me: Bullshit.

Chad: It's true. Ask Sebastian and Kat. They will back me up.

Me: You sound childish rubbing that crap in my face.

Chad: Ha ha ha, it's true, I am the champion of Go Fish and you're going to eat dirt once you figure that out.

Me: hurry up and come into the room I'm bored.

Chad: I'm looking for the cards. We can't play without them.

A couple of minutes later, he walks into the room with the card in his hands. he takes a seat next to me and shuffles the cards. He gives me eight and he takes eight.

Going through the cards I have doubled and put them down and then I pick up two more cards. Checking my cards I don't have any more doubles. Looking at Chad I ask. "Do you have 3 hearts?"

Chad looks at his cards and pulls the card out handing it to me and put the cards in my pile and pick up two more. "Do you have Queen of diamonds?"

"Go fish,"

He picks up a card and we go back and forth with asking the questions until the deck is cleared.

After the game, we count how many cards we each have and I learn that I won the game. I look over at the clock and see it's 10 pm. Letting out a yawn I get comfy in bed. Pulling the covers over me. "you can sleep in this bed or the couch is yours."

Chad climbs into the bed with me and pulls the covers over himself. "I'll leave enough room in this bed for you. if you want to snuggle during the night I'm up for it." he teases me.

Slapping his arm I say. "Stop teasing me. you know I won't be doing that all." I'm quiet for a moment before I say. "Chad?"

"Hmm," he sits up and looks at me. "What's wrong, Liz?"

"I'm sorry I scared you today. I felt fine most of the day and for that to happen it wasn't expected."

"I know." he pulls me into his arms. "You don't need to apologise for things that aren't in your control. At least we know what was wrong with you and get the help you need. Like bed rest for the next couple of days. When you come back to work I'm going to shorten the shifts and make sure that you get plenty of rest. I don't want anything to happen to you. things are going to be a bit easier at the office with Lisa gone. She's not going to get a job in my office again."

A smile spreads across my face. "That's good. all she ever wanted to do was start drama with me and she'd do it when there was an audience. Not once did I let her know she was getting to me. when Kat heard what was going on she never let it go and she made sure Lisa knew how much she hated her picking on me."

He kisses the top of my head. "Your sister is very protective of you and that's a good thing. If I was there I would have said something a long time ago. Today when everyone was staring at what was happening I had a go at them. you deserved to have privacy, but all of the employees wanted to see what happened. I'm not sure what I should tell them tomorrow when I go to the office."

Looking into his blue eyes I say. "Tell them the truth, Chad. They all know I'm pregnant. it's not like I can keep it a secret."

"Okay, I'll tell them, but only if they ask. I'm not going to announce it to them." he reaches over to the nightstand and turns the lamp off. "Goodnight, Liz."

"Goodnight, Chad." I move to my side of the bed and being out of his arms makes me feel cold. I start moving around trying to get warm, but I have no luck.

Chad moves closer to me and drags my body against his, "Keep still. You're keeping me awake."

"Sorry," I mumble into his chest and he laughs. "if I knew this is all it took to get you into bed I would have done this a long time ago." He teases again.

He sure knows how to get under my skin. That's one of the many reasons why I like him so much. I'm not ready to say the word love, but it getting to that point.

Ding, my phone goes off and reach over to the nightstand and pick it up. looking at it I see a message from my sister.

Kat: Are you asleep?

Me: Getting there, why?

Kat: Where's Chad sleeping?

Me: Ah,

Kat: Come on. You tell me, sis. I won't tell anyone.

Me: In bed with me.

Kat: Aw, cute. Are you sleeping against him or on opposite sides of the bed?

Me: Kat,

Kat: What?

Me: I'm not going to tell you.

Kat: Come one. We never keep secrets from each other.

Me: Tonight I will. Goodnight, Kat.

Putting my phone on silent I put it on the nightstand and fall asleep in Chad's arms.
