Chad's POV
Kneeling next to Eliza I touch her arm and whisper. "Please open your eyes, pretty girl. I need to know you're okay." I wait patiently for her to open her eyes and she doesn't. while I'm in the group people start to walk out of their office to see what's going on.
Kat's still on the phone and she looks at everyone in the room. "No, she's not awake yet. She's pregnant too. I'm not sure if she's been sick. I just got into the office when she collapsed." Everyone starts to listen to what Kat says. She's trying to not let them get to her, but I can tell it is.
She's going to snap any moment and these people are going to be in her crossfire. She's protective of her favourite sister.Pulling the phone away from her ear she looks at everyone and says. "What the fuck are you staring at. Get the hell out of here and go to work."
Eliza's eyes flutter open and she sits up. looking at me she asks. "What happened?"
"You collapsed. Kat's on the phone to dispatch. They want to know if you've been sick today?"
She turns away from me. "Yes, I can't hold the food down today. I'm starting to feel sick and my head hurts."
Moving her hair to the side I look for any bleeding and when I don't find any I say. "there's no blood, but I'll let the Doctor's know, just in case you have a concussion or something."
"Okay," she sits up. "can I have some water?"
The paramedics walk through the door at the moment and they drop the bag on the ground. They ask her some questions before saying. "You'll have to come to the hospital with us. A doctor will check you over before you can home."
Eliza stands up. she turns towards me and says. "I'm sorry I couldn't make it through the entire day without this happening, Chad. I don't think I should be working here." She grabs her purse from behind her desk.
Grabbing her arm I move her black hair out of her face. "That's bullshit, Eliza. You're perfect for the job. I don't want anyone else to help your sister with this job. I'll never let you. take a couple of days off work and get better." I kiss her head. "I'm coming over after work. you better open the door for me."
"I will." She promises.
Turning towards Kat I say. "Go to the hospital with her. take her home afterwards and call me when you find out what's going."
"Thanks, Chad. For a moment I thought you'd go with her."
"I would, but I have a lot of work to complete and you're the next person I'd trust going to the hospital with her. After all, you're family to her. I'm in between a friend and a potential boyfriend. It's going to be a while before she's ready to put a label on us."
She touches my arm. "Thank you, Chad for leaving things alone for her. she's grateful for what you are doing and giving her space to work through things on her own." Kat hugs me before leaving. "See you tonight. I'll let Mom know that she needs to set an extra plate for dinner. She likes having a heads up about dinner." She walks to the elevator and stands next to Eliza.
Eliza leans her head against the wall and closes her eyes for a moment which makes the paramedics make a fuss over it. "They tell her to keep her eyes open."
The elevator doors open and she disappears from view as the door closes, taking her to the lobby.
Walking to the office I sit behind my desk and pick up the phone calling Mom. The phone rings a couple of times before she answers in a cheery voice. "Hey, Chad."
Me: Mom?
She hears the pain in my words.
Mom: Chad, what's wrong?
Me: How did Dad handle things with your pregnancy?
Mom: Does this have something to do with Eliza? Did something happen to her today?Me: Yes, it's about Eliza. She passed out at work and she was throwing up before that. I love her Mom and I don't want anything to happen to her or the baby.
Mom: Where are you right now?Me: At the office. I can't leave for the day.
Mom: Yes, you can. Get some of the managers to take over your job. Be at the hospital with her.
Me: Kat's with her right now.Mom: You're no good at the office right now. All you're going to do is make mistakes. That's what your father did when I was in the hospital. He walked out through the day and went back to the office the next day refreshed.
Me: Why haven't you told me not to get involved with, Eliza. You know all about her history and yet you're letting me go through this?Mom: I know Eliza's story and that girl has been dealt a shit hand. If she's falling for my son who am I to stand in the way of true love. When the two of you get together I'll love being the Grandma to this child. I know later down the track the two of you will have your child.
Me: Thanks, Mom. Your support means the world to me.Mom: You're father and I are heading to the office to see what we can do to help you. if you ever need help we're there for you.
Me: Love you, bye.Mom: I love you too, Chad. Bye.
Hanging up the phone I shut down my computer and head over to the reception desks where I shut down those computers too. I put the answering machine and let my parents take it off when they get here.
Mom knows how to change things on the phone as she used to do this job and trained Kat when she interviewed to work closely with me. At first, Mom wasn't happy that I was hiring a friend. When she saw how Kat was professional she knew I had chosen the right person to take the job and since then Mom has been happy with leaving the two of us in charge of the company.
As I head over to the elevator a females step out of her office and walk over to me. "Mr Whitehall. How is that woman?"
Her name is Eliza. She should know the name of her co-worker.
"The woman's name is Eliza Donoghue. She's my newest receptionist. I'm about to go to the hospital and see how she's doing." I press the button for the elevator. "I won't be in for the rest of day." The elevator doors open and I step inside. It takes me to the basement. When it reaches the basement I head straight to my car and climb in.
I have to get someone to pick up Eliza's and take it back to the house.
Sending a message to my Derryn I say.
Me: Can you get someone to pick up Eliza's car? it's the basement of Whitehall Inc.
Derryn: We'll have it at her house in an hour.
Me: Thank you.Derryn: You're welcome.
Starting the car I drive towards the hospital.
