So, readers, if you remember, I said that I never know where my chapters are going until I finish them. Well, this one was no exception! I had no idea what was going to happen with these two amazing characters. The only thing I knew is that they would be in Cold Spring. I also did not realize how painful this chapter would be to write. I hope I have conveyed Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's emotions with my words and that you, too, can feel their pain at not knowing what is happening to Wei. Of course, we all know what is causing it, but we will have to wait patiently for them to realize it.
Thank you for sticking by me and reading my stories. When I checked "Stolen Memories Are Never Forgotten" numbers today I was blown away that it has had 4K views!!!!! As the two men began undressing at the edge of Cold Spring's clear waters, Lan Zhan kept a watchful eye on his husband. Wei Ying's temper had calmed as they walked to the spring. His breathing also slowed and his posture relaxed which comforted Wangji somewhat. But, Wei Ying's face still held anger. His eyes were cold and he had not uttered a single word the entire time. Lan Zhan's concern over his lover's changing behavior was beginning to escalate into a fear of what would happen if Wei Ying succumbed to his rage.
Neither of them removed their lower garments tonight as they had in the past. Wei Ying's normally playful side was non-existent and Lan Zhan's mind was too preoccupied with worry to have any intimate thoughts.
As Lan Zhan observed his partner silently, he noticed Wei Ying removing his headband from his wrist and attempting to tie it around his head again. He smiled inside, admiring how Wei treasured his wedding gift, wanting to keep it dry. However, his husband seemed to be struggling with the simple act and grew more frustrated each time the band would fall loosely from its spot. So, Lan Zhan reached out to help him.
"Don't touch it!" Wei Wuxian snapped. "I can do it myself." he grumbled. His eyes never once looked up from the ground beneath his feet, making Lan Wangji's heart hurt even more.
"I just wanted to help." Lan Zhan whispered sadly, his arm falling to his side. What was happening to his husband? Where was his playful, happy Wei Ying who lit up the world with just his smile? Why would he not laugh? Where was this anger coming from? Defeated, Lan Zhan slowly walked into the frigid water.
Wei Ying watched his beloved leave his side and sighed deeply knowing he had hurt Lan Zhan. And not just a little. He had hurt him more than anyone else could have. After finally securing his headband, he also entered the cold water, shivering as its tiny needles poked his heated skin.
He walked up and stood a few feet from Wangji, scared of what his husband might say or do if he got too close. His body was almost folded into itself, his shoulders hunched and his arms wrapped around his body tightly. Wei Ying felt so ashamed at his behavior towards Lan Xichen that he feared his brother-in-law would never forgive him. His full red lips quivered as they tried to suppress the waves of sadness threatening to crash over him, drowning him in sorrow.
Lan Zhan could see Wei Ying out of the corner of his eye and the internal struggle his lover was suffering through. He wanted so badly to turn around, to hug his husband and reassure him that everything would be alright, but his mind was still reliving the words Wei Ying had spoken to his brother. They ate away at his forgiveness that would have consoled his beloved. Unsure of what to say, Lan Zhan purposefully moved away from Wei Ying towards the deepest part of the spring.
