Hello dearest readers!  I hope you had a super wonderful weekend and are starting the week out with a clear mind and light heart.  Breaking bad news to those you love is never pleasant.  This chapter is full of it.  And I'm so proud of Sizhui in this chapter as well!  He's growing up so fast!  I hope you like this update and that I did it justice.  Please feel free to vote and especially comment at the end.  Thank you for reading!

"With You Til The End (featuring Sam Tinnesz) by Tommee Profitt

"When Fire Meets Fate" by Ruelle

As the pale morning sun fought through the dense curtain of fog blanketing Cloud Recesses, Lan Zhan blinked away the last remnants of sleep from his golden eyes.   The ambient noise of the forest creatures bidding farewell to the night evoked emotions in him he once thought were forever gone.  His vivid dreams had been filled with memories of Wei Ying. Memories of their love and their loss.  Memories that made him smile and memories that made him cry.  How many times during his slumber had he woven his husband's imaginary red ribbon through his fingers while he slept? How many times had his heart craved the invisible touch of his lover while his body lay immobile?

Lan Zhan laid stiffly on his bed.  Looking around, he realized that Xichen must have brought him back to Jingshi while he slept like a dead man.  He breathed in the crisp chilled air, filling his lungs with the pure scent of sandalwood that burned slowly in the incense burner sitting on his desk. He turned his head to watch the curling fingers of smoke rise and dance with each other, merging into one cloud before vanishing into nothingness.

Was that what would happen with him and Wei Ying?  Had their love been ignited and burned so brightly only to now fade, never to be felt again?  No.  Wangji would not accept that fate.  Their love was something the gods envied.  It was forever and would reunite them in every lifetime.  There was no one else for him.  Only Wei Ying.

He turned back to stare at the stark ceiling above him. His body ached for the warmth of his soulmate beside him. Today, he was alone. But, he swore to himself and his lover that this loneliness would not last. They would be together again. He would save his Wei Ying and bring him home.  And, whoever had done this to his beloved would pay dearly.

Wangji sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed. His tired muscles groaned in protest at the quick movement and he had to pause a moment to center himself. His head pounded and his vision blurred slightly as he began to wonder if he really wasn't the dead risen again. When he tried standing, his legs outright denied him and forced him back onto the mattress. Just as he closed his eyes to concentrate and stabilize his breathing, he heard light footsteps enter Jingshi.

"Wangji!" Xichen cried out softly. He quickly placed the broth and tea he had brought onto the bedside table and wrapped his little brother in a tight embrace.

"What are you doing up? Get back in bed, brother, you still need to rest." Lan Huan lovingly lifted Wangji's legs up and slid them back under the blanket.

Lan Zhan did not fight him and willingly returned to bed. He rested his back against the wall to stay in a comfortable sitting position without wasting too much of his already non-existent energy.

"How long?" Wangji asked, his voice scratchy and his throat raw.

Lan Xichen took the bowl of broth and offered it to his brother. "Five days." he replied sadly.

" he replied sadly
