"But, I'm not ready to leave just yet." Fan Yingpei grumbled. "I'm really enjoying my time here with Wei Wuxian in your beautiful homeland. Why must I go?" His eyes pleaded with the Jiang Clan leader but to no avail.

Jiang Cheng glared at his troublesome guest and rolled his eyes. "Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji must return to Cloud Recesses to attend to some important business. It is not appropriate for you to accompany them." he answered harshly. "We will provide you with all the provisions you need for your trip back. I will even send one of my men as protection, if you like."

Fan Yingpei lowered his head and sighed deeply. "No. That's fine."

Raising his head again, he cast an angry look at Jiang Cheng, his next words overflowing with so much contempt and sarcasm that the Jiang Clan leader had difficulty restraining Zidian from leaving his hand.

"I don't need a babysitter, you know. I can take care of myself. I may not be a great cultivator like all of you but I know how to defend myself."

"Perfect." Jiang Cheng replied with one eyebrow raised and a slight headtilt.

Fan Yingpei bowed with deceptive respect and returned to his room to collect his belongings before saying goodbye to Wei Wuxian. Jiang Cheng grinned with delight as Fan Yingpei walked away. He was glad the strange man had rejected the escort. He didn't want to waste one soldier on this sorry excuse for a human being.

There was something about Fan Yingpei and his intentions towards his brother that put Jiang Cheng on edge. Even if Wei Wuxian could not see it, Jiang Cheng would be there to protect his older brother. He owed him at least that much for what Wei Ying had sacrificed for him.

Fan Yingpei found Wei Wuxian with Lan Zhan standing on the pier, their hands causally linked together. A small grimace twisted his lips as he approached the two men, his heart miserable at this new development.

"Fan Yingpei!" Wei Ying called waving his free hand above his head. Fan Yingpei's grimace quickly transformed into a pleasant smile, hiding his true feelings from the one man he admired. The one man he wanted to be beside. The one man who could set things right.

"Wei Wuxian. Hanguang-jun. Thank you for allowing me to spend time with you at Cloud Recesses. I hope your marriage is filled with happiness and love. May you both be true to yourselves and each other. And, may your past never be forgotten for that is why you are here, together."

Fan Yingpei bowed low showing his gratitude to the two cultivators for their kindness.

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan returned the bow. To Lan Zhan's dismay, his husband hugged Fan Yingpei and patted his back with a final farewell, agitating his jealous streak once more. Lan Zhan gripped Bichen and breathed deeply to control his emotions, his amber eyes never leaving his mate.

Wei Ying tried to explain why they had to unexpectedly send him home, but Fan Yingpei's eyes could not hide his disappointment.

"You are always welcome to visit. I promise. I am very sorry that we have to part ways so soon, but......" Wei Ying turned to look at his partner who stood behind him, glaring.
