I hope your weeks are off to a good start!  Mine certainly is!  I'm stuck in the house, by myself, alone!!!  So, thanks to our roof repair guy, you all get another update!  I hope you enjoy it.  Things have slowed down in this chapter but that's because I needed a breather.  Thank you all for reading and I'll probably have another update by the end of the week.

I've included this music video of a song I meant to put in the chapter "What Could Have Been".  I cry every time I listen to it.  I hope it loads correctly as I've never done this before.  Please let me know if I'm smarter than I think.

After the sun rose on the next day, Lan Xichen decided that he had to return to Cloud Recesses to ask the clan elders for their help. He would also request that the juniors do research in the library and give Sizhui access to the Forbidden section. If Xichen was right, they would need everyone's support if they were to save Wei Ying and the world around them.

There was nothing more he could do there in Burial Mounds. He wanted Wangji to come with him but he knew his little brother would never leave the cave without his husband. That thought scared him more than anything else right now. Without Wei by his side, what would happen to Wangji? Xichen knew the answer to his question and his heart crumbled.

Jiang Cheng left with Lan Huan, frustrated and pissed that he was not strong enough to save his older brother from something he felt partly responsible for. If he had not been so headstrong all those years ago, rushing off to avenge his parents' deaths, Wuxian would never have sacrificed his core and been captured by Wen Chao. He would have never been thrown into Burial Mounds and forced to use resentful energy to survive. Oh god! Was that part of what Lan Xichen had experienced during his bond with Wei Ying? Was Wei reliving the pain of losing his golden core again and again? Jiang Cheng shuddered at the image.

Lan Zhan just sat silently staring up at his husband, unmoving and unblinking. Every breath he took without Wei Ying in his arms shredded his throat like a thorny rose stem. His lover was so close Wangji could almost touch him. Almost. The shortest distance that could never be measured because of how far away it was.

Wei Ying remained comatose inside that damn spinning cocoon with no sign of life and Wangji's hope was beginning to spiral downward

Wei Ying remained comatose inside that damn spinning cocoon with no sign of life and Wangji's hope was beginning to spiral downward. If what his brother said was true, his Wei Ying was already gone. In his place was a person who did not love him, who would, in fact, most likely try to kill him when he woke. That's why Wei Ying had asked Lan Zhan to kill him. He knew what the demonic energy would turn him into, how powerful and dangerous he would be if he was allowed to live.

Lan Zhan's mind was so conflicted. He could not fathom a world without his Wei Ying's smile to fill his heart with warmth. If his Wei was really gone forever, did he have the strength to kill the the Yiling Laozu who was now living in his beloved's body?
