"BABA!!!!"

Little Wei Ying's and the Yiling Laozu's voices joined as one.  Manifesting in forms of swirling tentacles of resentful energy billowing around each of them, their crippling pain suffused with their bodies.  The men on the cliffside backed away from the Demonic Grandmaster but Lan Zhan refused to leave the grieving soulmate's side.  He embraced Wuxian firmly in a futile attempt to shield him from this devastatingly dark memory.

Below them, Little Lan Zhan tried to the same for the small boy beside him.  He knew what it felt like to lose a parent, the crushing feeling it had on one's heart.  But his uncle and brother pulled him away from the crying child who was now weeping uncontrollably, his tiny breaths coming in random hiccups.  The demonic energy encircling him grew darker, tiny flecks of red mixing in with the thick black smoke.

Cangse Sanren looked up from her dead husband, her eyes landing on her precious little A-Ying.  Ropes of dark energy flowed around him as he continued to call for his baba.  His cries were gut-wrenching and filled their ears with the desolation of a shattered childhood.

"Baba!  Baba!  Wei Ying love Baba!  Wake up Baba!!"  His short legs carried him closer to his parents, the energy following his every step.

"A-Ying, stop!" Cangse Sanren yelled.  Gently laying her husband's body on the ground along with all the other corpses, she scrambled to her feet and ran towards her life that was wrapped up in a sobbing bundle of love.

"Baba!" Little Wei Ying kept calling.  When Cangse reached him, she cocooned him against her body, hiding his eyes from the cruel world around him.  The demonic energy enveloped them both, but Cangse did not flinch or try to chase the darkness away.

"Shhhhh.  Wei Ying, stop." she soothed.  "Please.  It's okay.  Mama's here.  Mama will protect you."

"B-b-b-but Baba!" Wei Ying wailed.  He fought to look past his mother but she held him too tightly against her bosom and he could not see the man who had always made them laugh.

The man who had always let Wei Ying sit on his shoulders so he would feel tall and strong.

The man who had always let his little Wei touch his sword and bow and told him extraordinary stories about all the corpses and monsters he had killed.

The man who had promised Wei Ying that one day, one day he would grow up and become a powerful cultivator just like his mom.

"Baba loves you." Cangse whispered.  She caressed her baby's back in comforting circles.

"Want baba!" Wei Ying screamed.  Cangse pulled away from her tiny one and held his wet face in her hands.  The resentful energy around them was not subsiding and she feared what would happen if she could not calm her tiny love.  She looked into his silver eyes and struggled to turn her frown into a small smile.

"Want baba to wake up!" he screamed again, pointing at his father's lifeless body.

The Yiling Laozu also kept calling for his baba, his voice strained and cracked.  His body convulsed under the weight of his memory, his mind consumed with torment and grief.  Lan Zhan held him.  He began singing WangXian and placing warm, comforting kisses all over Wuxian's head and face.  Yet, the demonic energy emanating from him only grew thicker and more suffocating.

The other men stood silent knowing they could do nothing more than what Wangji was already doing for his soulmate.  They glanced down at the juniors along with Empathy Qiren, Xichen, and Wangji.  The youngsters were huddled in a tight group while Qiren stood with his nephews.  Most of the corpses had been dealt with, only a few stragglers remained, none of them fierce and all of them still.
