Well, I don't think it's my best chapter but I hope you get the idea of what I was trying to express with my muddled words. I just got some great news! My plans this weekend totally changed and I should be able to give you at least one more update if not two over the next two days. Thank you again for all your amazing support!
Wei Ying allowed his husband to carry him for a little while. He loved how safe he felt in those strong arms that held him close, as if he was protected by a shield that wrapped itself around his entire body. His head rested on Wangji's shoulder so his nose could be next to his lover's enchanting sandalwood scent. One arm wrapped around the back of Lan Zhan's neck, while the other rested over his heart.
"I like the robes you chose today." Lan Zhan said softly. "But I must ask why?"
Wei Ying exhaled a short breath. "Because, I said goodbye to him today. It was time."
Wangji only nodded. He understood.
"Lan Zhan."
"Mn."
"I'm sorry for getting so.......emotional back there. I don't know why I was like that. I feel silly now looking back at it."
Lan Zhan's lips turned up slightly at the corners. "You don't remember, do you?"
Wei Ying's head shot up. "Remember what? Did I forget something again?! Aiya, will this brain of mine ever be as sharp as yours?"
Lan Zhan's smile grew and rubbed noses with his mate. "Wei Ying is the smartest. Never doubt that."
Wei Ying blushed and lowered his head back down.
"It's been so long since you had a golden core, my love, it does not surprise me that you don't really remember. And, that's alright. Cultivators with very powerful cores not only have acute senses, but also strong emotions. We feel everything a normal person does, only amplified."
Wei Ying thought about this for a moment. His mind worked quickly to process this new information. Lan Zhan noticed how quiet and still his husband was but remained patient. When Wei Ying realized what this meant, he wiggled out of Lan Zhan's arms to stand in front of the jade. His eyes were wide and his mouth hung open loosely.
"Lan Zhan!! You feel everything that strongly? Every day? How do you control it? WAIT!! Is that why Jiang Cheng was so angry after.......?"
Lan Zhan took Wei Ying's trembling hands in his and pulled his shocked husband slowly to the ground. He stared into Wei Ying's face as his beloved's eyes windowed the chaotic thoughts bounding inside his head. Lifting his lover's chin until gold met silver, Lan Zhan leaned in and kissed the lips he had been longing to taste for the past hour.
Wei Ying tried to protest but, when Wangji bit his lower lip, the world disappeared and the only thing left was his husband. Tongues danced in harmony while lips pulled at each other with growing passion. Wei Ying pushed into the intimate kiss wanting more. But Lan Zhan pulled back with a smile.
"Yes, I feel everything strongly. Every day. I learned to control my emotions at a young age, like my brother and all other Lan disciples do, before my core became strong. Lan disciples are taught that through control one can be better. Better decision makers, better healers, better protectors." he explained diligently.
Lan Zhan's smile faltered slightly. "When my mother died, the loss of her love festered in my heart and I swore to never feel like that again. I cultivated my core in a way that I suppressed all my emotions, not just the bad ones. I did not want any of my feelings overwhelming me like my sadness did."
