This chapter is just a bit of a break from all the "excitement". I still love it as it is building up to next chapter which I hope will be spectacular! So please enjoy this little respite for what it is. Don't be afraid to leave your comments. I wish all of you a peaceful and safe weekend!
"Lan Zhaaaan." Wei Ying whined with a yawn. "Where are you going?"
Wangji smiled affectionately at the drowsy man lying in their bed. His heart bloomed like a spring peony as he watched his adorable Wei Ying gather up the disheveled blankets into a ball and cuddle with them. He hated leaving but there was something he needed to take care of now that they were both healed.
"I won't be gone long." Lan Zhan reassured.
"But I'm cold." Wei Ying grumbled with a deep pout. He hid his face in the balled-up material.
Lan Zhan walked over to the bed and sat next to his baby of a husband. He stroked Wei Ying's hair and placed a quick kiss on his head.
"Sleep. I'll be back before you wake up." Lan Zhan said in a low voice as he stepped out of Jingshi.
When Wei Ying woke for the second time that day, the sun was at its peak in the sky and radiating warmth throughout Cloud Recesses. He stretched his lean body the entire length of the bed and realized that his feet now hung just past the end of the mattress. Wiggling his toes, he was surprised at how his life in Mo Xuanyu's body now felt like a dream. Wei Ying wished he could have thanked the young man for his sacrifice which gave him the chance to reunite with his soulmate and live the life he was now living.
With a deep sigh, Wei Ying crawled out of the comfortable bed and began readying himself for the day. After a quick bath, he found his Lan Clan robes and held them up in front of him. They truly were beautiful and represented both clans that he called home. Placing the white robes on the bed, he looked over at his black robes draped across a small writing table and hesitated.
He stared at them. His mind a hurricane of emotions. With slow steps, he walked over and traced his fingertips over the pattern sewn into the heavy fabric of the outer robe. A lonely smile pressed his lips together. Caressing the deep red inner robe between his thumb and fingers, Wei Ying came to a decision he had been hesitant to make.
His eyes glanced over to Lan Zhan's guqin,Wangji, and was shocked to see Chenqing lying beside it. The red tassle still hung from its black bamboo body. The engravings still as clear as the day he created his dizi. When he picked up the instrument, a single tear fell from Wei Ying's eyes.
"We've been through so much, haven't we friend?" he murmured.
He ran a single finger across the length of his instrument. So many memories tangled themselves with this small object. But, Wei Ying knew it was time.
