I apologize for the delayed update.  I wanted to post it sooner but my free time was non-existent this past week.  I tried to express Lan Zhan's emotions to the best of my ability.  I was even making some of the facial expressions myself trying to figure out how to describe them.  Hopefully no one was watching!  HAHAHAHA!!!!   I hope you like this chapter!  Take care everyone and  stay safe!

Wei........Ying.

Wei........Ying.

Wei Ying.

Lan Zhan attempted to feel the bed space beside him, to feel his husband lying next to him. But, his hands would not move. They remained still at his sides, ignoring his pleas to hold his Wei Ying. Wangji tried lifting his right arm, forcing strength through his meridians so that his body would listen to him. But nothing happened. He struggled to even open his eyes so he could see his lover and put his mind at ease that they were still together.

Wei Ying. Where are you? Why can't I move?!

Wangji tried rolling to the side where he remembered placing his beautiful Wei upon their return to Jingshi but it felt as if his wrists were entwined with metal braces that bit into his skin. Sluggishly, he lifted his upper body off the mattress but weakened quickly at the small effort and collapsed back onto the bed. He growled in frustration at being denied the one thing he wanted. The one person he desired to hold.

Wei Ying!

His anger and frustration of not being able to see Wei Ying were building in slow waves. They ate away at his calm nature, replacing it with a destructive flood of helplessness and want.

"Wei.......Ying!" he called out, the words bursting from his dry lips and throat.

"Wangji, please. You must calm down."

Lan Zhan recognized that voice, his brother's voice. Its calm tone soothed the panic filling him but only a tiny bit.

"Xichen-ge?"

Lan Zhan heard a sigh of utter relief as he blinked his golden eyes open. Everything was blurry and discolored but the more his blinked, the clearer his surroundings came into focus. Lan Huan was sitting on the bed next to him with a broken smile on his face. That was when Wangji realized the reason he was unable to move.

Lan Huan was holding him down, pinning his arms next to him with a strong grip of fear and heartbreak. Terror blanketed Wangji's soul at being held down against his will by his very own brother when Xichen should have been there to help him and his beloved.

Lan Zhan stared into Xichen's eyes, his forehead furrowing with a rage that crawled under his heated skin and suffused itself to every part of his body. He jerked his head to the side of the bed where his beloved should have been only to find a cold, empty space. For a moment, his mind mocked him.

Had it all been a dream? Had he not brought Wei Ying back with him and held him in his arms like he had longed to do for so many lonely nights?

No. It had been real. He could still smell his mate's lotus scent on the pillow beside him. His gaze returned to his brother whose eyes betrayed him with a lone tear that had yet to fall.

'They made one plan to capture me. And another.......to capture you, my husband.'

The Yiling Laozu's words repeated themselves in Lan Zhan's foggy mind. Confusion replaced all other emotions as he looked up at his brother's face. Xichen's deceipt cut deeper than any sword and Wangji's heart split in two.
