Chapter 3

Jack is sitting in his office looking out at the view of downtown Washington. He has been trying all day to get his work done, but Jackie is all he can think about.

He thinks back to when they had dated. Even then he could tell she was a special lady. Any man would be lucky to have her. Beautiful, intelligent, caring the list could go on, but it scared him how he began to feel about her.

There was only one woman that he ever fell in love with and that was Inga. She was blonde, curvy, fun, and taught him all he knew about sex. He loved being around her because it was never a dull moment. From nights on the town to passionate interludes back at her apartment. Inga was the one girl he felt he could see himself spending the rest of his life with.

Of course, once his father was informed by J. Edgar Hoover that she may be a Russian spy. His father demanded that he end their relationship considering he was in the Navy at the time. As hard as it was he ended their relationship and found himself being shipped off to the Pacific.

Then years later Jackie came along and made him wonder if he could fall in love again. She was brainy, yet her spontaneity made her fun. Very classy lady who can outdress even the best-dressed woman in the room. She would help him with his speeches and sit in on his debates when he was running against Henry Lodge. Her intellect rivaled his and they both shared a love for history.

He wasn't ready to be a husband, to settle down and start a family. He was having too much fun being the "Senate's Gay Young Bachelor." Jackie coming along when she did seemed like good yet bad timing. Still, Jackie would have been the perfect wife and mother.

He should've been honest with Jackie, how he ended things was wrong. Giving her a false sense that he wanted a serious relationship, then to sleep with her leaving without any explanation. Thankfully she didn't throw her drink on him the other night.

Now he wonders if God is giving him a second chance to right the wrong that he did several years ago.

Just then the phone to his office begins to ring.

"Hello, Senator John Kennedy here," he says into the receiver.

Just then a soft, whispery voice fills his phone, "Hello Senator, this is Jackie Bouvier."

He sits up in his chair, a smile comes across his face, "Jackie, I'm glad you finally decided to give me a call. I know you are a very busy woman, but I was hoping you would grace me with some of your time."

Even though he couldn't see he face, he knew she just smiled. Especially considering how she replies.

She lets out a small laugh, "I am calling to give you an answer to your earlier question of dinner."

"Which is?"

"I'll accept but under one condition..."

"Name it," he replies.

"Considering I'll be following you on the campaign trail, we could conduct our first interview during dinner."

"Oh, so you will be one of the correspondents following me on the trail? This campaign trail just became even more interesting."

"Yes, and I hope we can keep things professional."

"Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way," he grins even though he knows that keeping things professional between him and Jackie would be a challenge. Actually, some of the women he has worked with on his previous campaigns he has found it challenging to keep things "professional."

"Good, I guess I'll see you tomorrow night at seven pm?"

"Seven pm, and may I ask for your address?"

2808 P Street NW is the address she provides to him before concluding the call. Grabbing a few papers off his desk he makes his way home happy that he'll be able to take Jackie out again working on rekindling what they once had. For now, he needs to prepare himself for his date with a redhead he also met at the fundraiser party.
