It has been days since he talked to Jackie, every time he has called she puts the girls on the phone. Even when he asks to speak to her, she refuses to come to the phone. He knows he hurt her deeply and hates things like this between them. Right now he wishes he could hold her, kiss her, and most importantly just see her beautiful face and her gorgeous smile.
Damn Frank calling himself to send him a congratulatory gift. The next day he called Frank up and gave him a piece of his mind. However, he couldn't put all the blame on Frank. He should have told Jackie about Judy. Since he didn't is why their relationship is now tarnished.
After a long day of campaigning, he tries to relax in the tub. Hoping the hot water ease some of the pain in his lower back. Yet his mind is filled with images of Jackie. Her beautiful smile, the fullness of her soft lips.
He misses her badly and he doesn't know how he could fix this. He felt something was going to happen, but he prayed it wouldn't be as bad as it was. He has to prove to Jackie that he can be trusted all over again. Hopefully, she is willing to give him another chance.
After his bath, he gets out of the tub and calls Jackie. The phone rings a couple of times before he hears her soft voice filling the phone.
"Hello."
"Hey Jackie, it's Jack," he says hopefully she gives him a minute to talk to her.
"Hi Jack," she replies.
"Do you have a moment to talk?"
He hears her sigh on the other side of the phone. From the sound of the sigh, she doesn't sound like she isn't in the mood to talk.
"Fine Jack, besides the girls are downstairs."
"Ok, well how are you?" he asks, unsure where he should begin. The last thing he wants is to start an argument or for her to hang up on him.
"I'm fine Jack," she replies.
"Good, I uh...I thought a lot about you since that night."
"That's nice, I thought Judy would've been your main concern."
He feels his heart sink a little. He has no idea how he can convince her nothing happened between him and Judy.
"No Jackie, you and my daughters are my only concern. That part of my life is over, it has been over for months. There's no other woman in my life. Nothing happened between me and Judy, Jackie, I swear."
"Ok Jack," she replies.
He feels she still doesn't believe him. He runs his hand through his hair, he doesn't want her to still be mad at him.
"Jackie, what do I have to do to prove to you that my heart only belongs to you and my daughters?"
"Jack I have to go, someone is knocking at the door."
"Ok," he replies disappointed.
After they hang up he stares at the ceiling. Inside he feels frustrated. He doesn't know what to do. If only there was a way to prove his innocence.
Jackie's POV...
Jackie makes her way downstairs as she hears the knock at her door. She wondered who could it be considering it was almost dinner time. Looking out the window she sees it's Lee.
"Lee what are you doing here," she asks as she opens the door.
"I was in the neighborhood and wanted to see my sister and my nieces. I also bought wine," Lee says holding up the bottle.
Jackie smiles and moves aside to let her sister in.
While Caroline and Arabella eat their dinner at the kitchen table. Jackie joins her sister at the kitchen island.
"So have you heard from Jack today?" Lee asks before taking a sip of her wine.
"I was on the phone with him when you began knocking at my door."
"So are you still mad at him?" Lee inquires before eating a mouthful of her food.
Jackie rolls her eyes, "I don't know how to feel about Jack right now. The worse part about all of this is I still love him..."
"But you still don't fully trust him," Lee says finishing her sister's sentence, "Look Jacks, I know when it comes to you and Jack, I know your past isn't sunshine and rainbows. Now you know I'm not Jack's biggest fan and I'm pretty sure it's the wine talking," Lee says taking another sip of her wine.
"Let's be honest the man did a complete three hundred and sixty in his behavior just to prove to you he is serious about you. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him and you got to consider it's still early. Jack is human and Lord knows made so many mistakes that we can't keep up. We are not perfect either Jackie. Am I making sense?"
Jackie snickers, her sister is intoxicated cause she's all over the place.
"Yes, Lee you are making a lot of sense."
"Good, Besides from what I heard, nothing happened between Jack and that woman."
"How do you know?" Jackie asks with a raised eyebrow.
"When I was talking to Truman the other day he brought it up."
"Of course he did," Jackie says rolling her eyes. Out of all Lee's friends, Truman was one of the ones she wasn't the biggest fan of. Considering he was one to spread a lot of the gossip he has heard, especially the ones she has heard about Jack before he changed.
"Now Jackie, you would be surprised what he told me. He was telling me he had heard about Jack and Judy and was surprised when he heard that Jack turned Judy down," Lee says before taking another bite of her food.
"Seriously?" Jackie replies beginning to feel bad.
"Seriously," Lee says taking another sip of her wine.
"Truman said according to some friend he knows who knows Judy said Judy was fuming that Jack turned her down and she told off Frank Sinatra who told her Jack wanted to see her."
Jackie doesn't say anything and looks down at her food. Now she doesn't feel like eating the rest of her dinner. She feels bad for not believing Jack. She trusted him enough to tell him she loved him.
Later on that night unable to sleep she picks up the phone and dial Jack's number. She knows he's probably asleep but she needed to apologize. Since Lee left she feels bad and felt like she should've trusted Jack more. Yeah, his past and what they have been through before is more than enough reason for her not to trust him. But she should've gotten all the facts first.
The line rings a few times before she hears his voice.
"Mmm...hello," she hears his voice.
"Hey Jack, I'm sorry to wake you," she replies.
She hears his voice perk up, he realized it's her calling.
"Jackie, are the girls ok?" he asks.
"Yes Jack they are fine, they are both in the bed asleep."
"Oh good," she hears him reply while calming down.
"Jack I know it's late and I'm sorry for waking you up, but I needed to talk to you."
"It's ok Jackie, you know you can call me anytime."
"Thank you, Jack," she pauses, "the reason I'm calling you is that I wanted to apologize to you."
"Why Jackie, you didn't do anything wrong?"
"I did Jack, I didn't trust you. When I heard my co-workers gossiping about you I felt embarrassed. I felt like it was happening all over again. Instead of getting all the facts, I assumed the worse and I'm truly sorry."
"Jackie you don't need to apologize. I haven't always been a saint and I should have told you about Judy."
"So...where do we go from here?" she asks softly.
"I still love you, Jackie, I never stopped. I hope we can move forward."
"I love you too Jack, and yes I would love to."
