Jack's POV
"I can't believe I let Dulles and Bissell convince me that this was going to work," he says slowly rocking back and forth in his rocking chair. A chair that has been a great help in relieving his back pain.
"Well Jack, take it as a lesson learned," Bobby says looking at him.
"I guess so, I just don't understand how Castro found out. It was supposed to be a top-secret operation and it was known about before those men set foot on the beach," he says shaking his head.
Bobby doesn't say anything just nods.
"Jesus Bobby, those men didn't even have a chance," Jack says sadly.
"Why don't we call it a night and try to figure out the next steps tomorrow," Bobby says.
"Yeah, your right," Jack says as they both stand up.
He makes his way upstairs to find Jackie sitting up in bed reading.
"Hey, you, I thought you would have been asleep by now," he says taking off his suit jacket.
"I couldn't sleep, so I decided to do some more reading," Jackie replies not looking up from her book.
Jack goes into the bathroom and begins to get ready for bed. Once in his pajamas, he joins Jackie in bed.
"You know I'm more interesting than that book," he jokes cuddling with his fiancé.
"I know. How was your day?" Jackie asks putting her bookmarker inside the book for her to pick up later.
"I don't want to talk about it, kid. I just want to spend time with you."
"Alright," she replies getting comfortable in his embrace, "the girls missed you today at dinner."
"I know, I wanted to have dinner with them, but with all that is going on right now I couldn't get out of the office."
"They miss you, Jack," Jackie says looking into his eyes.
"I miss them too," he sighs disappointedly.
He hoped by having Jackie and the girls here with him he would be able to spend more time with them. However, less than ninety days into his Presidency he has already made his first huge mistake.
"Tomorrow once they get home from school, can you bring them by my office? I don't have a meeting scheduled around that time."
"Ok, I know they will be looking forward to it."
"Good, I know I'll be looking forward to it too."
The next day Jack and Bobby are discussing the Bay of Pigs fiasco as its being dubbed.
"One thing I can suggest is to take full responsibility for what happened Jack. That is one way to come out on top of all this."
He rocks back and forth in his chair thinking about what his brother has just stated. "You're right Bobby, I also got to work on getting those men released."
"Leave that to me, I'll work on getting them released. You just work on your speech to the nation," Bobby replies.
Just then there is a knock at the door.
"Come in," Jack says.
The door opens and Arabella and Caroline run in.
"Hi Daddy, we missed you," the girls exclaim hugging their father.
"Hello, Bella and Buttons. I missed you too," he replies before kissing each of his daughters on the forehead and hugging them. Just having his daughters near made the weight on his shoulders lessen.
