Jack's POV...
"So are you just going to stand by and let her slip away...again?" Teddy asks his older brother.
Jack gets up and walks over to the window.
"Of course, I'm not going to let Jackie slip away again. I'm trying Ted; I am trying my best to be good," Jack replies frustrated.
The three brothers decided to take a short break from planning the campaign to catch up with each other.
"That's good Jack, but what else? You're not doing something right," Ted says organizing the papers in front of him.
"Being patient, that is what he isn't doing. He expects Jackie just to fall into his lap. Instead of giving her time," Bobby says walking back into the room.
Jack rolls his eyes and shakes his head. "I am being patient Bob, but damn it she could at least say something. Christ, how would you feel if you told Ethel you love her and she doesn't respond or change the subject."
"I rather her not say it because I don't want her to tell me she loves me just to make me happy and she doesn't truly feel that way," Bobby replies.
Bobby is right, the last thing he would want is for Jackie to say she loved him only for her not to mean it.
"Jackie said a while ago she is not going to let me embarrass her, but that is the thing I wouldn't. I care about Jackie too much to hurt her let alone embarrass her. Part of the reason I changed. I understand as she didn't want to expose Arabella and Caroline to an unhealthy relationship..."
"You know how that was Teddy, mom, and dad constantly away from home leaving us with nannies and governesses because they didn't want to deal with the mess they created. How dad brought home his mistress to have dinner with us. Jackie had gone through something similar with her parents and they ended up having a nasty divorce."
"Yea, but I know you wouldn't bring home a mistress Jack, you are not that cold or insensitive," Teddy replies, "I understand why Jackie feels the way she feels, she's scared, Jack. She doesn't want history repeating itself. Besides you two have come a long way since earlier this year. Just give her a little more time."
"Yes stop being so impatient," Bobby chimed in.
"Alright, mother," Jack replies.
"Don't get smart with me, my girl is waiting for me at home," Bobby says sitting down.
"Ouch," Ted says before he snickers.
Jack shakes his head and leaves it to his brothers to tease him about his love life.
"Why don't we get back to work," Jack says joining them at the table.
Jackie's POV...
Jackie is at home talking to Lee. The sisters are in the kitchen getting dinner ready.
"I'm scared Lee, I am in love with Jack. I'm scared to say it back when he tells me he loves me. What if I let my guard down and he hurts me again," Jackie says before grabbing an onion out of the fridge.
"I know Jackie and it's going to take more than a few months for you to heal. But give him some credit, he's done a complete three-sixty to prove he wants to be with you. I can't even remember the last rumor about him and some woman. He must truly be on his best behavior. Wow, I can't believe I just said that," Lee says resting her hand on her chest.
Jackie lets out a small laugh. She knows Lee has never been a big fan of Jack. At least she is not as bad as their mother.
"I feel bad because when he says I love you, I change the subject or don't say anything," Jackie says as cuts up the vegetables in front of her, "I want to tell him so badly, but a part of me is like don't."
