"So let me see if I heard this correctly," Joe Sr. says taking his glasses and scrubbing his face with his hand, "you slept with this young lady seven years ago and you didn't know that you got her pregnant with twins. Now she decides to tell you about them?"

"She tried to tell me dad, but I ignored her calls," He replies looking up at his father.

Rose his mother sits in the chair next to him, shakes her head. She knows that he has inherited his father's attitude towards women, screw them and leave them. Now, this attitude has come back to bite.

"Ok she did try to contact you, but for some reason, you decided not to call her back. Fast forward now she finds you and tells you?" Joe asks.

"No Dad, I ran into Jackie at the fundraiser party last week and I asked her out. When I picked her up I saw the girls and one of them looks just like me. I asked her Dad, she didn't tell me. Honestly, if I hadn't run into her, I would've never known about them."

Joe shakes his head and sighs. "So what does she want money? What does she want?"

"Nothing Dad, she hasn't asked me for anything. I think the only thing she wants from me is to be a part of their lives. Jackie already has her life together. I doubt she's expecting me to take care of her too."

"Well before you go any further, I strongly suggest that you obtain a DNA test. I know you said she was married before, but who knows if she is telling the truth," Joe says putting his glasses back on.

"I don't think Jackie has a reason to lie. Like I said she tried to reach out to me multiple times, I just ignored her attempts."

He's surprised how calm his parents are taking the news. By now he would expect his father to have taken his head off and tell him how irresponsible he was.

"For now I say we keep this quiet. The press would have a field day if they got wind of this. Right now we need to secure your nomination," Joe says.

"Right. Besides, I doubt Jackie would want the press to get wind of it either. Considering she'll be covering my campaign I don't think she'll want to be put in the spotlight."

"Good, after you have the DNA test we'll figure out how to handle this," Joe says before letting him leave.

Jack goes to use the phone to call Jackie. He feels uneasy about asking her for a DNA test, but he knows his old man will push for it, especially if he is to add Caroline & Arabella to his will. Most importantly he would want to list them as his beneficiaries if something was to happen to him.

After the third ring, he hears a breathy voice answer, "hello."

"Hey Jackie, it's Jack."

"Hey."

"How are you?"

"I'm fine, how are you?"

"I could be better. Do you have time to talk?"

"Yes."

"Good," he takes a deep breath, "so I told my parents about the girls."

"Ok."

"They took it well, but my father thinks I should get a DNA test done. I believe, considering how much Caroline looks like me, that they are mine. For will purposes and to add them to my life insurance policy our lawyers are going to ask for one also considering I'm not married."

"That's fine Jack, just let me know when."

He lets out the breath he didn't realize he was holding. He expected her to explode, to go on a tirade on how he and his father are trying to call her a liar.

"Great. So how are the girls? Have you told them about me yet?"

"They are fine, and no I haven't told them yet."

"Why not?" Since learning about Caroline and Arabella being his daughters he has gotten used to the idea he is a father. He's wanted children of his own and hoped one day he would find a woman who would be willing to give them to him.

"Well Jack, I wasn't sure how you felt about being a father. I didn't want to introduce them to you and you decide  you couldn't handle it. So before I let you meet them I need to know are you going to be there for them."

"Of course Jackie, I wouldn't do that to them. I want to be there for them, I want to get to know my daughters. I want to know their likes, their dislikes, what their favorite food is, chase away little boys who come knocking on the door asking for them."

Jackie chuckles and smiles, "Jack they're only six, boys won't be in the picture for another ten years."

"I don't care Jackie. I will protect them, they're my daughters and I'll be damned if I let a boy break their hearts."

Jackie laughs.

"I'm glad you think it's funny Jacqueline, but I'm serious."

"I know. I just think it's cute you're being overprotective about them ."

Jack smiles and drops his voice slightly, "So you think I'm cute?"

"Jack, please."

"What Jackie? Besides, when will I have the opportunity to take you out again? To be blown away by your radiant beauty."

"I don't know Jack, other than you having a meltdown the last time we went out I feel it's best that we just be friends and co-parent."

"I feel like that'll be too hard for me, I mean being friends. I think you're beautiful Jackie, and I'm very sorry for how I ended things. If you give me another chance, I promise I won't hurt you."

"I don't know Jack, I need time to think about it. But we can arrange a day for you to become acquainted with your daughters."

"What about their beautiful mother?"

"Jack, I'm serious.

"I'm serious too Jackie. I'm going to get you to change your mind about me."

"Ok, we'll see."
