Jackie's POV...
Jackie sits in front of the tv while brushing Caroline's hair as they watch Jack accept the nomination for the Democrat Party candidate for the Presidency. Finally, his hard work has paid off so far. Even though he won the nomination, he still has to win the election. Now he has to go up against Vice President Nixon whom many are saying has a good chance of winning the election.
"Mommy, look at daddy," Caroline says while pointing at the image of her father.
"I see him, doesn't he look handsome?" Jackie asks her youngest daughter.
"Yes," Caroline replies smiling.
Just then Arabella comes from the kitchen drinking a glass of milk.
"Uh, Ms. Bouvier, where do you think you're going with that glass?" Jackie asks as soon as Arabella takes a seat next to her on the sofa.
"I know mommy, but I wanted to see daddy," Arabella replies.
"Alright, just this once," Jackie replies.
"Look at all those people, it has to be more than a thousand people there," Caroline says as the camera pans the inside of the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.
Thousands of excited fans waving signs and delegates yelling fill the black and white screen. While the camera pans, Jack's voice is heard as he gives his acceptance speech. Not long after the camera returns to the man of the hour and his running mate.
Once Jack's speech is finished the arena erupts in loud applause and the song "Happy Days Are Here Again" is played by the band. They watch as Jack waves to those around him before he is ushered off the platform. A few minutes later NBC insignia comes across the tv indicating the end of the show and the nightly news begins.
"Alright ladies, you got to see your father. It's time for bed," Jackie announces.
Arabella and Caroline groan as they wanted to stay up a little longer.
"Mommy, can't we stay up a little longer to wait for daddy to call?" Arabella asks.
"I don't know what time that will be baby. Your father is three hours behind us in time and I doubt he will be able to call tonight. I know he said that if he didn't call tonight, he would call first thing in the morning," Jackie says hoping to soothe their disappointment.
"Awww," is their dejected reply.
"I'm sorry girls, I know your father would call you if he could, but he has a lot to do. Just know he loves you both very much and if he could call he would."
"We know," Caroline says looking up at her mother.
"Come on, I'll read you both a bedtime story, will that make you feel better?"
"Ice cream will make us feel better," Arabella says perking up.
"Yeah Ice cream will make us feel better," Caroline chimes in.
Jackie smiles and shakes her head. "Alright in celebration of your father's victory tonight you get Ice cream and then it is off to bed."
"Yay!!!!" the girls exclaimed.
Later on, after she got the girls to calm down and into bed, she takes a bath before getting into bed. She decides to continue to read Charles DeGaulle's autobiography for a little while before going to sleep.
Just as she gets into the book the phone rings, startling her. Looking at the clock on her nightstand reading a little past one in the morning. Quickly she picks up the receiver as she didn't want the ringing to wake up the girls.
"Hello," she says.
"Hey pretty lady," is the reply from the Boston accented voice she just heard hours ago on the tv. That same voice is also slightly slurred.
"John Kennedy, do you know what time it is?" she asks slightly annoyed.
"Yeah, it's," he pauses, "a little past ten," he replies.
"Yes where you are Jack, it's currently one fifteen in the morning here," she replies.
"Oh shit, I forgot about the time change," he replies.
Not wanting to ruin the high of his night she decides to change the subject.
"Congratulations on your win Jack, the girls and I are proud of you."
"Thank you kid, it means a lot coming from you. The girls are asleep aren't they?"
"Yes, they just went to bed an hour ago."
"Damn it, I'll just call in the morning. Are you in bed?"
"Yes, I am."
"I'm sorry kid, I didn't mean to disrupt your beauty rest, even though you are already beautiful enough," he says flirting.
"Thank you, Jack you're too sweet," she laughs.
"I'm saying Jackie, you don't know how many heads you turn? I have to admit it makes me a little jealous."
"You jealous? I find that hard to believe."
"Believe it or not I do get jealous when it comes to you. I love you Jackie and I want you all to myself."
She doesn't say anything as she wasn't expecting him to be so honest. Everything still feels new when it comes to whatever it is she and Jack are doing. They haven't officially declared themselves a couple, but she knows her feelings for him are deeper. Still, she is scared of letting him in completely.
Just then in the background, another voice is telling Jack he needs to come back to the party.
"I'll be right there, Peter," Jack replies.
"Jack why don't you go back to your party, enjoy yourself. I'll talk to you in the morning when you call to talk to the girls," Jackie says.
"I would rather talk to you but if you are ready to go to sleep, I'll talk to you in the morning."
"Good night Jack, congratulations."
"Thanks, kid, good night," he says before she hears the click indicating the call has ended.
Putting her bookmark back inside her book, Jackie decides she needs to go to sleep. Hopefully, she decides what she is going to do about Jack soon.
Jack's POV...
Jack stares out of the window of the airplane deep in thought as it races across the sky. Since the night he was on the phone with Jackie he wonders when she will reciprocate her feelings. Things have changed for the better when it comes to their romantic relationship, but he still feels shut out.
When he confessed to Jackie again he is in love with her, he hoped she would at least respond. Again she either changes the subject or doesn't say anything. If only she knew how hard it is for him to express his emotions. She's the only woman he feels somewhat comfortable with when it comes to expressing his innermost thoughts and feelings.
"Ladies and gentlemen please take your seats and fasten your seatbelts the plane will begin to land shortly," the stewardess says over the loudspeaker.
Even though he noticed the pretty young stewardess he didn't try anything with her. The night of his party after the convention he was on his best behavior. If he was still his old self he would have had multiple women that night and finished up with the stewardess. Yet he wants to prove to Jackie he is a changed man and his eyes are only on her.
Once he arrived home he showered and tried to relax as this was going to be the only day he could. After today he will be back on the campaign trail to beat Richard Nixon for the Presidency. Later on tonight he told Jackie he would come over to spend time with her and the girls.
His girls, his beautiful girls. He loves being a father and although he wished he could be around more. He hopes they will be able to live with him once he moves into the White House. He expressed to Jackie that he would like for them to live with him in the White House once he is elected. Not only because he wants them close to him but for safety. He already worries about them. When he becomes President the last thing he wants is for something to happen to them or Jackie.
