hey guys! short chapter but it was fun to write. enjoy :)

...

Today, Y/N had challenged the Cavalry Captain himself to duel outside Mondstat, in which he gladly accepted. All was going well so far; Y/N had Kaeya pinned down on the ground while she stomped on his back in victory. However, a blast of ice from his sword suddenly sent her flying in the other direction. She landed on the ground with a heave, the air being forced out of her lungs and her weapon knocked out of her hands.

"What the hell? That's not fair at all! You can't use your Vision when we're dueling, especially since I don't have one!"

Kaeya snickered, withdrawing his blade with a cocky expression.

"It's not my fault the God's haven't deemed you worthy of a Vision. It actually just proves how my skills are superior to yours", he shrugged.

Y/N growled.

"Why you-"

...

After the impromptu circumstances, Y/N and Diluc were repeatedly nagged by Aether and Paimon to explain the events that happened that night. The two told a fake story in place: Diluc was taking a late-night stroll to calm his nerves, when he came across Y/N fighting a Fatui harbinger. Of course, he helped, but had to leave when the fighting ceased in order to find a healer for the girl, leaving his weapon behind. They had requested for this information not to reach Jean and the other Knights, Aether was skeptical, but he agreed nonetheless.

Still, the boy refused to tell Y/N the reason why they were prohibited from being outside the city walls at night.

The duo, as well as Paimon, were now set beside the body of water surrounding Mondstat. Something seemed to be bothering Y/N, and it was now Aether's obligation to bear it.

"Tch, I don't need a vision anyway! I'm a fine adventurer who can hold her own without any elemental powers!" Y/N huffed, aggressively kicking rocks into the lake.

The boy sat on the ground behind her with his head rested tiredly in his hands. He had been listening to this girl rant for almost an hour now, he just wanted to go home and have his dinner.

"Hehe...something tells Paimon that's not what Y/N really thinks..." the floating pixie giggled.

"Visions are overrated, I don't need one! I definitely don't want one either! I-"

"Oh for goodness sake Y/N!" Aether impatiently interrupted, tired and hungry from the girl's venting.

"Take your time figuring things out, but can we please head back now? I just want to eat..."

Y/N's face flushed in embarrassment, how was she not aware of her own continuous blabbering?

"Ah, yes of course! I'm sorry for taking your time." she stammered sheepishly.

...

Aether and Y/N bid farewell once they were inside the city walls. The blonde went off to see to his dinner plans, while the latter headed towards Mondstat's library.

The room was grand; with rustic, wooden shelves lined with intricate, leather books, towering over the readers as they indulged in Teyvat's finest literary pieces. One would feel like the most ingenious scholar just by simply basking in the library's nostalgic atmosphere.

Y/N entered the cozy library and saw a conspicuous, purple hat peeking out from behind the book shelves. Upon noticing the adventurer's arrival, the owner of the headpiece quickly diverted her attention towards the visitor.

"Ah, Y/N! You're here!" she spoke sweetly.

"Come, sit down! I've prepared some Silk Flower tea today, as well as some Sunsettia tarts."

"Tea? At this hour?" Y/N teased, seating herself on the cushioned chair in which Lisa advised her too.

"It's premium quality, my dear! You have no idea how much trouble I went through just to get these blossoms imported from Liyue.", the sorceress pouted, pouring the brew into fancy, little porcelain cups.

"Now then, do you have any questions on last week's lesson? I trust that you've taken your knowledge of hilichurlian anatomy into your battles?"

Y/N nodded, taking a bite out of a buttery, nectarous fruit tart. The sunsettia's ripe flavor set off a sweet explosion in her mouth, delightfully surprising the girl.

"Wow, this is amazing! Did you make this, Lisa?" Y/N asked between mouthfulls.

"Perhaps..." Lisa smiled.

"I'm glad you like them."

Y/N finished her tart, washing it down with a gentle sip of the floral tea. Study sessions with Lisa never failed to brighten her day. The librarian oozed intellectuality, each rich piece of information being shared astonishing the young traveler.

"Actually, there's something I've been wanting to learn about." Y/N started.

"Oh? And what is that?"

"I'm curious, how did you receive your vision? If you don't mind, that is."

The woman laughed, she knew this question was bound to come.

"Well, one day, I sat down and thought to myself, "wouldn't it be great to have a vision?". And then poof!  A vision simply appeared in my hand." she explained indifferently.

(^the fact that this info is cannon is SENDING MEEEEE)

Y/N stared at the woman in confusion.

"That's it? That's all you had to do?"

"Yes, basically."

Y/N blinked with a stunned expression on her face. Was it genuinely that easy to obtain elemental powers? Did the Gods really think she just wasn't worthy of a Vision?

"But...aren't Visions supposed to obtained through life-changing events or something?"

"Hmm..." Lisa muttered thoughtfully.

"Not necessarily. Though I'd have to admit, my case is quite uncommon, and quite dull, to say the least. If you'd like to hear a more exciting story, you should ask Jean. Her's is quite the tale."

"Ahhh, alright. Thank you for your insight, nonetheless." Y/N smiled.

The two continued their pleasant conversation, accompanied by dessert and brew. Y/N left the HQ once dawn had set and headed back to the Angel's Share.

The girl was quite frankly, broke. She arrived in the city with no income whatsoever. It would take her a while to earn enough to support her living, much less, rent out a household. Thankfully, Diluc offered her shelter on the highest floor of the tavern. It was mainly used for storage, so her residence wasn't much of an issue.

"See it as compensation for the potential trauma I've caused you", he said.

Y/N had earned enough to purchase a few personal belongings; including a mattress, pillows, and proper sheets for her to sleep on. All the storage items were cleared to one side of the area, leaving space for the 'bed' on the other. As for recreational items, Y/N didn't own any.

The girl slumped into the sheets, letting her body sink into the soft mattress. It had been a long day and Y/N found herself asleep after only a mere few minutes.

Hopefully, something interesting will be waiting for her tomorrow.
