Equus POV:

I blinked awake and saw that I was still in my eight-hooved house cat-sized horse form. I whined as I stood up.

"Welcome back to the world of the living. You almost got us sacked. You know that? The contact almost didn't give us our pay because of you. Thankfully though, you managed to scare the spy away." Kyon appeared in the doorway and rambled. I nodded along absentmindedly as I noticed I was in my room.

The dark gray walls were bare with an Earth twin-sized bed. A closet had regular Earth clothes because alien clothes were weird. I got off my bed and shifted to my human self. My mask has a cool side ability; whenever I shift back to human form, I keep my clothes, avoiding embarrassing situations.

I groaned and walked past Kyon, who was reprimanding me about earlier. I know I let myself go. I know I should've kept better control. I know I put us on the map. I know, I know, I know.

"I'm sorry doggie dearest, but I can't help it!" I whined at him. Kyon had his hood and mask off. Well, his mask was just on the side of his head so that I could see the rest of his face. He rubbed his sky blue eyes with his hand and sighed.

"I know you can't help it Equus but can you at least try not to invoke your powers next time? Maybe instead of causing mass destruction, can you run laps around the planet?" he sighed, and I immediately felt ten times worse.

Sometimes I wasn't in complete control of my body or emotions. It depends on the Earth seasons for some reason. We keep a calendar so Kyon can be ready for my drastic mood changes. Right now, it's Wintertime, so I'm always bloodthirsty, hyper, overly ADHD, and I sometimes have weird episodes where I go insane, like before.

I whispered out a sorry, and Kyon wrapped an arm around my shoulders, accepting the apology. He led me down the hallway into the small kitchen and dining room. Kyon let me go and got to work on preparing some kind of food.

Our house was small. It had two bedrooms, a bathroom, a dining room, and a kitchen. It worked for us; we kept a home base that wasn't too out there.

Recently we've had to hide from a pretty impressive guy. When I say impressive, I mean impressive in the way of theatrics; he'll do anything to have a cool entrance. Reminds me of that Earth god of the sky. I shook my head, no sense remembering if I wasn't going to return.

I smelled the familiar smell of bacon and grinned. Kyon managed to smuggle some human food in here.

Kyon and I worked as mercenaries. It didn't matter the job usually, though some of them were kept for specific months. Yesterday's job was saved on the side so I could have a considerable killing during my winter months.

Sometimes during our jobs, we spot a spy for the guy who's been looking for us. Yesterday the guy gave himself away by speaking in Latin, a language he shouldn't have known about from his planet.

Most of the time, we either kill or run away from the spies. If they know too much, they die. If the spies have minimal information, they live. It wasn't hard to understand.

I groaned; the bacon smell wasn't bacon. It was the weird alien eggs from this planet we resided on. Kyon chose a stupid planet to live on. I mean, Randometro?

Randometro is precisely what it sounds like; a random metro. See, the random part can be anything. Buildings stay the same, but anything created is not what it seems. For example, my eggs this morning, I was so excited for bacon but was disappointed. Also, the metro part because this is essentially the dark side of the universe's Subway systems.
