Equus POV:

The next morning I woke up on the beach laying on Kyon's chest in my cat form. I wondered why he didn't go to sleep in the cabin. The water barrier should've followed him as long as I was with him. I felt the rollercoaster of Kyon's chest as he breathed in deeply, making me rise a few inches, and then Kyon breathed out, plunging me downward.

I yawned, letting out a quiet mew. Then I snuggled back into my paws and enjoyed the sensation of rising and falling. Kyon was still sleeping, and by the looks of it, fully. Otherwise, he would've been awake the second my eyes opened or when I yawned.

I smiled. I've only ever seen Kyon sleep deeply in human form, maybe once throughout the five years I've been in space with him. It was refreshing to see him sleeping like a normal human being for once.

Not wanting to wake him up, I waited patiently, not changing my form as I watched him. Now I know, watching someone sleep is creepy, but I had nothing else to do. Honestly, I was antsy; since I was in Winter, my bloodlust and energy still ran high, combined with my cat form, it wasn't a good combination.

My wings strained with the desire to fly, and my pupils widened when I thought I saw a piece of Kyon's shirt move abnormally. What if it was an enemy, an imposter? Kyon would understand if I made sure, right? No, no, I had to let him sleep. It wasn't bothering him, so it's okay.

The ruffle of fabric moved again, and my pupils widened more, seeing a probable imposter. It just moved again. What explanation do you have for that? My mind stuttered as I held back the urge to pounce. I had to let Kyon sleep.

Then the ruffle flapped wilder. That wasn't just the wind. I shifted into a pouncing position, my eyes trained on the crease of fabric. I slowly brought my hind legs up, my tail thrashing in anticipation. Then all at once, I pounced, claws out as I landed on the piece of fabric. Grasping it in my mouth, I laid on my side and kicked, claws out as I made sure whatever the imposter was, was dead.

I felt Kyon jolt from my pounce, and I felt his chest moving as he lifted his head.

"What are you doing to my shirt?" he asked sleepily, rubbing his eyes. I stopped killing the imposter, and sat proudly, puffing out my chest as I looked at him. Then I pressed my paw into the ruffle, flattening it. A sense of glee ran through me; I had vanquished the beast!

I heard a sigh and looked up at Kyon to see an exasperated look on his face. "I'm going back to bed, leave the barrier, yeah?" he yawned and then laid his head back down. After closing his eyes, I fought against my desire to jump at the next ruffle of fabric.

I had to let Kyon sleep; he never just went back to sleep. He must be tired. I looked at his face and felt a sense of need for a nap fill me. Yawning, I padded across his chest to his face. Then I jumped up and laid down on his forehead. It was warmer here. It made sense. Sleep where it's most comfortable.

I curled into a ball on his forehead and closed my eyes, my tail falling over his left eye. I purred loudly as I felt myself fall into dreamland for a total of four and a half seconds. I was ripped from my dream of chasing kings made of marshmallows when I felt two hands grab me.

I yowled in annoyance as Kyon sat up, holding me in front of his face. "Seriously Equus? What's wrong with my chest?" I huffed at him and crossed my kitty front paws.

"Oh, you think I'm being annoying? Really? Says the one who woke me up and then laid on my face," Kyon said, surprised. I opened my mouth in surprise. He thought I woke him up on purpose? No! There was an imposter. Also, sleeping on the most comfortable spot is common sense.
