Millicent straightened her jacket, fluffed her hair, adopted a synthetic smile and delivered the Edenville news over the radio. Candice Fudge was back in town (Leroy was replaced). Already a whirlwind of events were planned and the women's guild was drafted into action.

Notices for the poetry society fund drive, 'Why I love Edenville' challenge, stated that applications for entry could be picked up at the Fudge store for 5 pounds an entry. The winner would receive a surprise gift from the town librarian, Fifi LePage.

Meanwhile, at the community trial, the jury waited anxiously as Mayor Maynot called the court to order.
Tobias, Jeremiah and Eli all shouted, 'Two pints of bitters and a lager!'
Sam Kemp raised his hand and announced that artichoke salad was all he could get. The women's guild took all the cucumbers for sandwiches because Tom Fiddler had snagged all the kippers.
The rest of the people all wondered why on earth they were there and left none the wiser when the mayor adjourned the court.

'He's a right numpty,' Eli said. 'Never even got my lager.'
'Aye and look there he goes, headin' straight for Fudge's store.'
'Well, it's just like him init? Chases all the women, he does.'

Mayor Maynot eagerly hoped Candice had not forgotten to bring the Assam Silk Saree he requested. They had discussed it at length over lemon tea before she departed to the Orient.

Porter sat dazed and confused over the invoice from the Edenville Medical Surrey service. He didn't recall the emergency ride from the river to the clinic with musical accompaniment an extra. Nor did he understand why there was a charge for oats for the surrey team of horses.
It was bad enough getting the clinic's bill for disposal of excess bologna. And now he was suddenly involved in some dipsy scheme - or rather some scheme of Dipsy's, to buy a pub!

It was all too much. He sent a small boy to Fudge's to fetch an orange ice with bacon bits and mustard - he need some sense of sanity.
