Edward Fudge closed the shutters of his shop and poured a Napoli Brandy for him and Tom Fiddler.
'Well the Poetry Competition was a success Edward'
'Sure was Tom. Here's your cut for the liquid refreshments. I made a tidy bundle out of the food and managed to move on a of bit mature stock. I supplied some desecrated coconut and tinned meerkat for the coronation chicken sandwiches.'
'You did them proud Ed. You know that lady had her meal for two with our Wilf.'
'I heard.' Replied Edward. Infact there wasn't much he didn't hear about. 'Wilf only had his face slapped three times, is what I know, so he must have been on his best behaviour that night.'
'Yes, but did you know olde Shaky the milkman, well he was delivering milk, and he was just delivering a couple of pints from his horse and cart, 'cross the road from Wilfs, and he swore on his Gaelic fife that he saw that same lady leaving Wilf's by the front door thinking no one saw her. That was at 5am.'
'Well I won't tell anyone' said Edward, 'only Candice and she's not one to gossip'.
'No, I won't tell anyone either. I bet Wilf used that line, "Would you like to come over to my place and see my albino rat and my taxidermy collection. The ladies fall for that every time'
'Well not every time' Edward mused.
'No not every time', echoed Tom.
'No, he tried it on Ashleigh Tray the tobacconist and she shoved a lit cigarette up his nose.'
'I bet that made him angry'
'Yes, he was fuming.'
There was a pause in the conversation, till Tom spoke again.
'I hear this is the last chapter of Edenville.'
'Yes, seems so. Well of this book anyway.'
'You mean there's going to be a second book? Asked a surprised Tom.
'Oh yes, soon anyway. It's going to be called "Edenville The Mystery of the Japanese Lemon'
'Coo... I wonder what that's going to be about. Do you know if I'm in it?' Tom looked apprehensive, hoping he wasn't going to be written out.'
'Oh, we're all in it. And there might be a few new faces too and maybe some other exciting additions.'
'Oh do tell.'
'Well I can't tell of course, it's more secrets. But I do hear that Dobbs may be getting a new pair of trousers and maybe Edith a new shiny shovel.' Edward poured them both two more brandies.
'In the meantime life in Edenville will just carry on as normal I guess.' They clinked glasses.
'I guess it will.'
