Addie woke to a furious knocking at her bedroom door. Her head was pounding as her eyes shot open, but she quickly closed her eyes as the light from her window was shining directly on her face. She laid completely still and stared up at her ceiling as the knocking continued. It only seemed to be getting louder and more aggressive as she tried harder to ignore it. She then grabbed the pillow from behind her and squeezed it around her head to drown out the noise but it didn't help.
"Frank! Ruby! Someone get the damn door!" Addie yelled, annoyed that no one had gotten up to get the door. The knocking stopped, but not because someone opened the door. She just hoped that whoever it was got tired and left. The room was completely silent, a little too quiet. Usually she could hear Ruby softly snoring in the bed next to her, but not today. Something was off. Addie slowly adjusted her pillow and leaned it against the head board so she could sit up. She gently tilted her head back with her eyes closed and took a deep breath in. She felt different, everything felt different. She stayed sitting trying to recall yesterday or the day before but couldn't. She could vaguely remember slight feelings and emotions but her memory felt fuzzy, almost non-existent. She felt sad but couldn't remember why.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.
"Fuck." Addie groaned as the knocking returned, distracting her from trying to form a memory. She threw open the curtains around her bed so she could answer the door. When she stepped onto the floor she looked around and noticed that the girls weren't there.
"Where the hell are they?" she thought as she grabbed the black robe off of the back of the chair next to her bed. She wrapped the ties around her waist as she walked to the door to open it. Her bare feet shuffled on the hard wood floor loudly enough that the person on the outside of the door heard her.
"Adelaide, my dear, I brought you breakfast!" Cedric's voice echoed in her empty room as she reached for the door handle to open it. The door creaked loudly as it swung open revealing a wide-smiling, messy-haired, brunette boy, holding a white mug and a small yellow plate with toast on it. When she saw him an overwhelming warmth filled her body, she was so happy to see him. She couldn't remember much but she did remember being with him. He stepped in the room and planted a kiss on her cheek as he walked past her to set the mug and plate down on the chest at the foot of her bed. She placed her hand on her cheek in awe as she watched him take off his sweater and sit on the yellow arm chair next to her. He was watching her too. He reached out his hand for hers and pulled her down towards him. She let out a faint giggle as she sat on the arm of the chair next to him.
"How is your arm?" he asked as he lifted her arm to remove the sling so he could see if there was any more bruising.
"My arm? Oh yeah... my arm. Uh well it feels sore but I think its healed... I uh... forgot I fell yesterday." An uneasy feeling rushed over her and he face dropped and her eyebrows furrowed.
"I can't really remember much, to be honest." She looked to Cedric who gave her a half smile as he cleared his throat.
"Well... We were climbing a tree and you slipped and fell, breaking your arm, I then carried you to the hospital wing. Madam Pomfrey healed you up and said that you had a pretty big concussion and that you may experience memory loss. Then we just hung out last night, nothing too crazy." He bobbed his head hoping that his story was convincing enough. "It was the Weasley Twins birthday yesterday but you didn't want to go after what Fred did to you and because of your head."
"What he did to me?"
"Remember, he called you a whore in front of the school because we started dating and then acted like a jealous ex-boyfriend even though you guys never dated. You guys haven't spoken since then." Cedric rubbed her leg as he told her his story about how Fred made up lies about him cheating with Cho and beating him up multiple times because he was jealous. He made sure to tell her partial truths so that her memory of the events would line up. He was trying to completely erase anything good about Fred from her memory.
