All of the first years got off the boats below the castle. Everyone was talking and laughing about how excited they were. Most of the kids were talking about the houses that they thought they were going to be sorted in. Addie started to feel nervous. Her stomach started to turn and feel queasy. "I don't know what house I'll be in." She thought. "Fred and George said that the only good house was Gryffindor, what if I'm not in Gryffindor" she continued to worry, not even paying attention to the painting on the walls waving and greeting them as they walked by. She got to the top of the stairs when she recognized a familiar voice speaking to them. "In just a few minutes you will be sorted into your houses. The house you are sorted into will be yours until you graduate. Your house is like your family." McGonagall continued to speak about what was going to take place in the next few moments. Addie grew more and more nervous.

The giant doors behind McGonagall suddenly started to open. Addie tried to look over the crowd of people when all of the sudden she couldn't believe her eyes. The room was enormous. There were 4 long tables that took up most of the room. The tables were filled with students talking and jokes amongst themselves. Addie looked up to see the night sky right above her. Floating candles danced around in the air. Addie felt like she could pass out. She looked to Ruby and saw that her face looked more sick than excited. She grabbed on to Ruby and walked arm in arm to the front of the room where they were stopped by a giant gold bird podium. An old wizard began to speak to them addressing the rules and hopes for the school year.

It was time. The sorting had begun. An old tattered hat had been pulled out and set on the first boys head. Addie jumped when the hat began to speak. "Ahh James Endover... I shall put you in... Ravenclaw!" The table to the right of Addie roared in excitement at their new addition. The boy ran over and high-fived some students until he took his seat.
"Micheal Hearting... GRYFFINDOR!" The hat exclaimed. The cheers from the Gryffindor table were almost deafening. Addie looked over to see the Twins jumping up and down on the bench below them cheering as loud as they could. That made Addie giggle out loud at how excited they were. 15 minutes had passed and more and more people were sorted into their houses. "Slytherin.... Gryffindor.... Hufflepuff.... Hufflepuff." Ruby was sorted into Hufflepuff. The hat took a likening to Ruby, it even told her that she was going to make a great addition to the Hufflepuff house. A few more students were sorted before Addie was called up. "Adelaide Stewart!" Professor McGonagall said loudly. Addie walked up slowly. She was so nervous. She felt like she was going to throw up. As she sat down on the stool. She looked over to see Fred giving her a thumbs up and a big smile. Seeing that made Addie relax a little more. The hat was put on her head as the room went silent. She felt like all the eyes in the world were watching her. "Ahh Adelaide Stewart. I see that you're the first person in your family to be a witch. That will only be a problem if you let it." The sorting hat said. "If you focus you can be a great witch. One of the best of your age." Addie felt herself blush and get hot. It felt like that hat was on her head for ages. "I'm sensing you will do great in any house that I place you in..." The sorting had went back and forth for a few more seconds and finally yelled "Hufflepuff!" Addie felt her heart sink. She wasn't in Gryffindor with Fred and George. She was in Hufflepuff. She knew little to nothing about the houses but she really knew nothing about Hufflepuff. She walked over to the cheering table. A group of people came over to her and hugged her, welcoming her to her new house. Even though it's not what she expected she was still excited to be part of something so magical.

After all the sorting was finished the feast began. Out of nowhere mountains of food appeared and filled the tables with meat, bread, veggies, any food you could think of and dessert! Addie had never eaten that much food in her life. While she was eating she felt like eyes were on her. She looked up to find no other than Fred staring at her. She gave him a slight smile before waving in his direction. He waved back with an even bigger smile on his face. She felt herself blush when he looked at her. She then turned he focus on Ruby and continued to talk about the wonderful day they'd have. Finally it was time to leave the Great Hall and find their way to their common room and dorms.

They finally walked down enough stairs to burn off all the food they ate moments before. Addie noticed that their common room was next to the kitchens. However she couldn't possible think about food now after the feast they all just had. The Head boy and girl of their house was leading them past the entrance to a latter. The Head boy proceeded to direct their attention to a pile of barrels on the right side of the corridor. He proceeded to show them how to get into the common room by tapping the proper barrels and tapping to the rhythm of 'Helga Hufflepuff'. He continued to tell them not to share the password to anyone else except other Hufflepuffs. Each house was not allowed to go into other houses common rooms so it was important not to tell anyone.

When Addie walked into the common room her eyes widened with shock. The common room was so happy. It was yellow which was the Houses color. The room was covered in plants and flowers seeing as their house was home to Professor Sprout, the Herbology professor. The room felt cozy and welcoming. Seeing it made Addie loose all her doubts about being sorted into the Hufflepuff house. She felt loved and at home. The head girl showed Addie and the rest of the first year girls their dorms.

Addie was assigned one of the dorms that was quite small. Only 3 girls could fit in it instead of 5 like normal. That didn't seem to mind Addie though she was excited about the thought of being able to share a room with two other girls and become friends with them. Addie was excited when she looked in the room and her trunk and luggage was waiting for her on her bed. One girl was already in there unpacking her bags and organizing her things into her drawers. Addie walked closer when the girl turned around. "Hi! I'm Frankie! I'm so excited to room with you!" The girl was smiling ear to ear. She pulled Addie into a bone crushing hug. Frankie was from a pure blood family. Their family was known in the wizarding world for her mother's job. Her mother came up with a beauty line for Witches of all ages. She wanted to make everyone feel beautiful and she did a really good job of it. Her family line was mostly Hufflepuffs with the occasional Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Frankie was as pretty and she was kind. She had long dark hair that reached the bottom of her back. She had dark brown eyes and fair white skin. She almost looked like a vampire.
Right as Frankie was finishing crushing Addie in the hug Ruby appeared in the dorm. Addie light up! "Ruby! Are you sharing a dorm with us! This is Frankie by the way!" Ruby shook her head before Frankie grabbed her hand and pulled her into the hug with Addie. "I'm so excited to room with you! This is going to be the best year ever!" Ruby and Addie look at each other before breaking into a smile and laughing along side Frankie.
If everyone was as nice as Ruby and Frankie, Addie figured Hogwarts was going to be the best 7 years of her life. The girls all finished unpacking their bags before crashing into their beds after their long day. Addie was left dreaming about all the things that the years ahead were going to hold. And on top of it all she pictured Fred's face before drifting to sleep.
