"Clink, clink". The mail slot on the front door opened and closed as the letters fell to the floor.
Adelaide walked to the front door to grab the mail and brought it back to the kitchen table where she was eating breakfast with her parents and her 3 brothers, Scotty, Charlie, and Jude.
"Anything interesting in the mail today Addie?" said her mother.
"Uhm not yet just bills, a letter from Gram, and- wait. Mom what is Hogwarts?"
Adelaide looked to her mom and dad as she held the letter out to show them.
The letter was cream with a red wax seal. It was addressed to her.Adelaide Ivy Stewart
546 Downing Street, LondonAdelaide stared at the letter her eyes wide with confusion. She gently opened the letter making sure not to rip the paper. The paper in her hand was soft to the touch, she slowly unfolded the papers to see that she, Adelaide Ivy, was a witch.
"I'm-Im a witch? What does that mean? What is Hogwarts? Mom? Dad?"Addies parents looked to each other before silently talking to themselves. They were both confused. They had never heard of Hogwarts themselves. They didn't even know that witches were real. "Adelaide, Honey, we couldn't tell you the first thing about Hogwarts. This is the first we are hearing about it"
Over the next couple weeks Addie and her parents read over the letters trying to figure out what to do.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
"Addie, darling could you get that please?" Yelled her father from his office. Adelaide walked to the front door and opened it and to her surprise there was a woman in long purple robes and a black pointed hat standing on the front porch. She had silver hair pulled back neatly into a low bun and small glasses that hung on the edge of her nose. She smiled before she spoke, "Adelaide Ivy, how great to see you. May I come in please?"
Addie shook her head up and down slowly as to say yes before moving to the side to let the woman in.
"Are your parents home my dear? The older woman asked quietly. "I am here to talk to you and your family about Hogwarts, we haven't gotten a letter back so I figured I would come and sort things out."Addie guided the older woman to the living room before going and finding her parents. "Mom, Dad, their is a woman named- actually I didn't catch her name- but there is a woman in the living room who is here to talk to us about Hogwarts."
"What? You just let a random woman into our house without asking us first?" Said her mom in an annoyed tone. Her mother pushed past her followed by her father to look and see who was here. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, my name is Minerva McGonagall, I am a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry".
The family and the professor talked for a couple hours about the school and what they taught, the wizarding world, and how Addie was to attend the school in the fall. "This all sounds to good to be real" said Addie with a look of disbelief. McGonagall gave her a slight smile and said, "It's a world of magic and wonder but in order to experience it to the fullest you must go to school and learn all you can. I have a feeling you will be a wonderful witch" And with those words she excused herself from the couch and thanked Adelaides parents and handed them another letter containing all they they needed to know about how to get to prepared for school. "We hope to see you in a few weeks, if you have any questions don't be afraid to send me an owl and I will write back as quickly as I can." They said their goodbyes to the Professor and in the blink of an eye she vanished.
Addie couldn't contain her excitement. She spent the next few days talking with her brothers about the school and what she thought it was going to be like.
Her brothers were younger than her. Scotty was 2 years younger than her. He had brown curly hair and blue eyes. He was 9 at this time but he was very tall for his age. The younger 2 boys were twins. Charlie and Jude were 7 years old. They were fraternal twins. Charlie looked more like their mother, short blonde hair and light blue eyes. Jude on the other hand had long curly brown hair and green eyes just like their father. Addie was the only child that don't look like either of her parents, she has both of their features which make her look uniquely herself. She had long wavy brown hair, she was tall, and her most defining feature were her eyes. Here eyes took on both of her parents, one eye was blue and the other was green. Whenever people met her they were always quick to comment on the uniqueness of her eyes. The days crept on as time got closer to her first day at Hogwarts. She was bursting with excitement to buy all her school supplies and see all of the magic that she wasn't used to before. The only question that bugged her was, "Where do you even go to get magic school supplies?"
