San's POV
"Are you feeling better now?" I asked. We were now sitting on the couch and eating.
Mirae swallowed her food before speaking. "Actually, I feel better after telling you about it... Thanks San-ah, for hearing my worries." She smiled.
"Don't mention it. I promised to hear it all, didn't I?"
"...So promise me too." She put down her chopsticks and showed her pinky finger to me. "Promise me, you'll also tell me the things that worry you."
"You still do these kinds of childish stuff?"
"Wae? What's wrong with it? Just do it quickly."
I chuckled and locked my pinky finger with her. "Promise."
"If everything gets difficult for you or you want to cry..." I looked at her. "You can always come to me. I'll lend my shoulder to you."
She smiled and went back to eat the slice of her pizza. I kept looking at her for a while as she was eating.
I don't know why but I want to tell her all my worries and want her to always stay by my side...
She waved her hand in front of me. "What were you thinking?"
I snapped out of my thoughts. "It's nothing..."
"San-ah..."
I looked at her. "Hm?"
"Don't believe what I say next..." I slightly nodded. "Actually, Mr. Kim Joohyun's wife, Mrs. Kim Dayoung is my mom."
"What?" I looked at her with furrowed eyebrows.
She laughed a bit. "I told you not to believe it. It's a lie, don't mind it."
"Ah, I see."
"By the way, you didn't tell me you're dating Kim Nari."
"I–"
"I know, you'll tell me to keep it a secret. Don't worry about that, I'm good at keeping secrets."
"But I'm not–" She didn't let me speak.
"Uh? It's already late... You should go sleep now. You have a schedule to go tomorrow."
"Uh..."
"I'll clean this up." She started picking up the plates.
"No, I'll do it." I picked up the empty pizza boxes.
"It's okay. I can do it... You go and rest. I'll take care of it." She gave me an assuring smile.
"Okay." I stood and and walked to my room but stopped halfway. "Mirae-ah..."
She turned to face me, still holding the plates. "Hm?"
"Ah... I-I wanted to tell you good night." I stuttered as I was blushing a little.
She chuckled. "Good night."
I nodded and walked into my room. I closed the door and leaned back on it. I smiled to myself, rubbing the back of my neck.
I plopped on my bed and stared at the ceiling, sighing. I turned to my left and my gaze landed on the photo frame.
I picked it up and brought it closer to me. It was a photo of me and my Mom. I ran my fingers over the photo.
"Mom, I wish you were here with me now... I miss you..." I was holding back the tears which were threatening to fall.
—Flashback—
I was crying, sitting on the ground. I fell from the swing. I was a five year old then. "Mom..."
Mom came running to me and lifted me up. "San-ah, are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?" she asked, crouched down in front of me.
I wasn't able to say anything as I was crying hard. "San-ah, it's okay." She hugged me. "I'll take away your pain. I'm here. Don't cry."
Her hug was so comfortable that I stopped crying after a while. "It's going to be okay. Don't cry." And her words too. It calmed me down.
She pulled back after a while. "Let's go eat your favourite mint chocolate ice cream, okay?"
I nodded and she held my hand before walking to a nearby shop. We came back to the park and sat on an empty bench. She handed me my cup of mint choco and I started eating it happily.
I was busy eating my ice cream when mom suddenly crouched down in front of me.
"San-ah..." I looked at her. "Stay here. I'll go to the restroom and come back quickly. Okay?"
"Yes." I nodded.
"Don't go anywhere, stay here." By saying that, she left.
Time passed by but mom didn't come till now. I just sat on the bench and looked around to see if she came back but that didn't happen.
All the people in the park left. And I was still sitting on the bench, waiting for mom. I was getting worried as the time passed by.
I jumped down the bench and went the way I last saw her going. Tears kept rolling down my cheeks as I kept calling her, thinking she might come back on hearing my voice.
"Mom!... Please come back!... Please don't leave me!... Mom!..."
—End of flashback—
"NO!"
I jolted up on my bed, breathing heavily. The past memories which I had with mom converted into a nightmare.
"San-ah!..."
I looked up to see Mirae standing at my door, looking all worried.
To be continued...
