Dayoung's POV
"I told you not to contact me anymore," Mirae said, looking annoyed. We were now at a hotel, sitting opposite to each other.
"Mirae-ah, I'm still your mom."
She sighed. "Why did you call me here?"
"I gave Kim Joohyun a divorce."
"What?"
"Yeah..."
"Why did you do that? You had all you wanted... And now you want to give up all that luxury?"
"I married him because I fell for him but now... I think I was a fool. I'm regretting my decision..."
"So what? That's your business, not mine. Don't drag me into it."
"Mirae, let me explain myself." She sighed again. "The reason why I wanted a divorce was..."
—Flashback—
"You did great," I said. "You'll surely be in the final line-up."
"But I'm still very nervous about it. My whole life depends on it," Yeonhwa said. "And thank you for always looking after me. I'm grateful for that."
I smiled. "Don't worry. You'll surely make it this time." I patted her shoulder. "I'll get going." By saying that, I left for the office.
When I entered the room, I saw Joohyun and manager Jeong sitting at the table already.
"Is the final lineup for the new debut group out?" I asked.
"Yes, ma'am. Here you go," manager Jeong said, passing me the papers.
I went through the names and furrowed my eyebrows. "What? This is the lineup?" I looked at them in shock.
"Yeah. This lineup is perfect," Joohyun said.
"And what about Park Yeonhwa? Why isn't she in the lineup?"
"Mrs. Kim, we can't change it now. It has already been finalized," manager Jeong said.
I slammed my hands on the table as I stood up. "It's unfair!... That child shed all her blood, sweat and tears for this debut and now she isn't in the lineup... We need to think about it again."
"No! There's no need for that. You heard manager Jeong, right?" Joohyun said.
"But Yeonhwa is much more talented than these girls. She has improved a lot. So why not her?"
"You think talent is all what they need to get here?" He smirked.
"What?"
"You not only need talent but also connections to come up to here...All the entertainment industries are like that. They should just know how to make profit out of this. It's just business. Isn't it, manager Jeong?"
He looked at manager Jeong who smirked in response.
"Manager Jeong, can you leave us for a moment?" I said. And so he did.
"What happened? Is something wrong jagiya?" Joohyun said.
I scoffed. "Profit?... I thought you were making the dreams of the kids like Yeonhwa come true but in reality... you were just destroying them. How can you play with their dreams?"
"Dayoung-ah, you're just too emotional. You don't know how the entertainment industry works. And what's wrong with the lineup? They're also talented."
"But not like Yeonhwa. She deserves to be in the lineup... That girl really put her all to come till here. She practiced day and night. And now you're just wasting all her efforts as if it was nothing?"
"Kim Dayoung, just mind your own business. I know very well what I'm doing."
"Now I understand..." I huffed. "I've been fooled till now."
"What?"
"You're not the Kim Joohyun I fell in love with."
"What nonsense are you talking about? Have you gone insane?"
"No... I was crazy back then. Now I'm getting to see your true colours." He rolled his eyes.
"If you're gonna keep up with this then I can't stay with you anymore." By saying that, I walked out of that room.
—End of flashback—
"That Kim Joohyun did that?" Mirae huffed. "The higher ups are always that corrupt."
"I tried to stop him but he didn't listen to me. He even threatened me not to report it."
She scoffed. "He's even more shameless than I thought... So what are you going to do next?"
"I've decided to start up a new company. I'll make the dreams of the kids like Yeonhwa come true. I just can't let Kim Joohyun crush their dreams like that."
"Go for it..." I looked up at her. "Do it! It would be the best for the kids. Their talent won't be wasted... Cause giving up their dreams is almost like giving up their lives. I can understand it very well..."
She looked down and seemed as if she was holding back her tears.
"...I wanted to request you something." She looked up at me. "Will you help me in doing that?"
She looked away and stood up. "I know you're doing this for a good reason but..." She looked back at me. "I haven't forgiven you for what you did years ago. So please don't drag me into your business."
"Mirae-ah!..." I went to her and held her hand, stopping her. "Can't you forgive me this once? Please?"
She removed her hand from my grasp. "...I'm sorry, I can't." By saying that, she walked away. I breathed out heavily, watching her figure fade away.
I'm sorry, Mirae-ah to hurt you like that... I'm really sorry...
