Mirae's POV
When I opened my eyes, I found myself under an unfamiliar ceiling.
"Are you awake?" I turned my head to the left and saw mom sitting beside the bed. "You fainted yesterday so I brought you to my house."
I jolted up on the bed. "What about San?"
"His surgery was a success and he's in the ICU. His manager called earlier."
I thought to go see him and was about to get off the bed when she stopped me.
"You can't see him even if you go now. It's ICU, so the visiting hours are set."
"Still..."
"Eat first. You won't be late even after eating."
I hesitated a little but agreed and got washed up. I slowly came and sat at the table. It was a little awkward for me as I haven't had breakfast with her since a long time.
She passed me the plate of food. "Eat up."
I nodded and started eating. I took a spoonful of the food and savoured it. It tasted the same as before.
I missed her cooking. She's still the best cook in the world.
The atmosphere was too awkward so I thought to start a conversation.
"When is the visiting hours?"
"Huh?... Ah, at 11. You have a lot of time so eat slowly."
"Ah, I see."
"...Is it delicious?"
I slightly nodded. "It's delicious."
"It's been so long since I saw you enjoying my food. I missed it so much." I gave her a small smile and continued eating.

I reached the hospital but wasn't able to go to San's room.
—Flashback—
I was still hugging him when he suddenly pushed me away, making me fall on the ground. I quickly turned back to look at San for doing that.
Just then I heard the sound of a gunshot. My eyes widened when I saw the red liquid flowing out from his stomach. My heart dropped on seeing him like that.
"SAN-AH!" I gasped.
—End of flashback—
It's all because of me. I couldn't protect him...
I sighed for the nth time, roaming aimlessly in the hallway. I was still lost in thoughts when I saw Jaehyun coming towards me.
"You're here to meet San?" he asked. I just nodded. "Let's go together."
He walked a few steps but turned back to look at me as I didn't follow him. "Aren't you coming?"
"I am... Jaehyun-ah, how's your wound?"
"I'm totally fine now."
"That's a relief..."
"Mirae-ah, is something wrong?"

Jaehyun's POV
"So you're telling that San got injured because of you?" I said. We were now sitting on a bench in the hospital campus.
Mirae nodded. "He got injured while saving me. I should have thought of a different way." She sighed, resting her head on her hands. "It's all because of me."
"It's not your fault." She lifted her head up to look at me. "Don't blame yourself for it."
"But..."
"It was the situation not you."
"He got shot right in front of my eyes and I couldn't do anything."
A tear managed to slip out of her eyes and she looked elsewhere, trying to hide it from me.
"Take this..." I offer my handkerchief to her.
She took it. "Thanks." She wiped her tears with it.
"You can cry it out. No one will see you here."
"Don't tell anyone that I cried. You too, pretend as if you saw nothing."
I slightly smiled. "Okay."
I lifted my hand to pat her back but couldn't do it. I pulled my hand back and just stayed with her.
She stopped sobbing after a while. "Are you feeling better now?" I asked.
"Hm." She nodded.
"Should I tell you something?...San would like that you were safe and think that it's a relief... So only cry for a little while. Only blame yourself for a little while. And in return, don't forget it for a long time. That's how you can repay."
She was listening to me quietly so I continued.
"What can you do if you regret it? It's water that has already spilled. The only thing you can do is slowly make up for it since the time doesn't go backwards."
She sniffed before looking at me. "Thanks... I'll always remember it." She gave me my handkerchief back and stood up. "Let's go together."
"Ah! I've some work to do. I need to visit the police station regarding Lee Hyunwoo's case...You go ahead." I turned her around and pushed her a little forward.
"...Okay." She slightly nodded and walked away.
I let out a deep sigh when she was gone. Then my gaze landed on the handkerchief.
They say time heals everything. I'll be able to give up my feelings for Mirae, right?
To be continued...
