( TWENTY-TWO )
***
There was no escape to the violence in this world. Attacks kept coming, each one ten times worse than the other. Every day, survivors would turn up, taking up the little space that they had left. And soon, they'd run out of supplies. But Michael still hadn't given up, and there was no sign of Sam and Dean coming to the rescue.
At this point, Lexi was hanging on to the last little bit of hope that she had left. There were times when she would lie awake at night and consider accepting that she was stuck here, but then she remembered Jack's words. Hope keeps people sane, and without it, Lexi would be utterly lost. She knew that if her brothers were here, they wouldn't give up. So, she stayed strong, despite being utterly terrified.
Mud pressed further into the bottom of her leather boots as she followed Jack and Mary through the thick forest. Jack had returned from a battle while Lexi and Mary had stayed at the camp, he filled them in on the event.
"Balthazer's army attacked," Jack updated as they continued walking, "but we were ready. And then," He stopped, turning back to look at the two blondes with a proud smile, "I killed him."
Jack had become quite the soldier in the battles, fighting along side the camps army, going up against every angel that attacked. And so far, he was successful in every one. His power was always clear to Lexi, she knew he was strong despite how weak he may look, but there was always the fear that he won't make it out alive. Every time he walked into the battle, there was always the possibly of losing him. She hated it, but she couldn't stop him.
"And Bobby?" Mary raised a brow, breathing heavily from exhaustion.
"Well, he'll be back in a few days with the people that we saved."
Lexi pushed some hair out of her face, letting out a long breathe. More survivors should be a success, and there's no doubt that it is, but it had its downfalls. "How many are there?" She asked.
"Thirty, at least." Jack replied.
Lexi subtly glanced at Mary, who wore the same look on her face as she did. The older women sighed.
"You're not happy? This is the third battle in a row that we've won." Jack said after he saw the looks on their faces, slowly halting their trek to stand in front of them.
"We are." Lexi said, "We're happy that there's more survivors. It's just that--" She didn't know how to phrase it without sounding completely selfish.
"We're running out of space and supplies." Mary finished for her, "And now with all those new people, I just don't know how we're gonna take care of everybody."
