( CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX )
***
The human experience meant something different to everyone. To Dean Winchester, it meant cheap fast food, cruising in the car and tacky bars. To Lexi Winchester, life meant something slightly different, something more deep. However, Jack needed the full Winchester experience; the low maintenance road life.
Their first stop was a burger joint, one that was a common stop for the hunters. It was cheap, and full of truckers, but it was the best shit in town.
Taking the food back to the car, Dean tossed the keys to Jack.
"Hey." He said, watching the boy struggle to catch the keys, "Why don't you drive?"
"What?" Jack looked down at the keys.
"Wha—" Lexi stuttered, "You don't even let me drive the car!" She scoffed.
"And Dean, I-I don't drive." Jack said.
Dean opened the passenger side door and got in, "Now you do."
Lexi couldn't hide her chuckles as she watched Jack try to start the car. He glanced around at all the controls before grabbing the gear shift, pulling it down.
"Ah, ah, ah." Dean stopped him, "That 'R' is not for 'Race'. Put it in park." He told him. As Jack turned the keys, the engine let out a grinding scratch. "Oh boy." Dean cringed.
Jack turned the keys once before and the engine sparked on, "There we go." Said Dean, "'D' for 'Drive'."
Once Jack had put the car in the correct gear, he slowly pushed down on the accelerator and pulled the car out of the parking lot.
The car was running smoothly for a minute. They had made it onto the road and so far, Jack hadn't crashed. Then, the car suddenly jolted to a stop.
Jack took his hands off the wheel and let out a frustrated sigh.
"Okay, it's alright." Dean reassured him, "Keep going."
Hesitantly, Jack started the car again. They moved all of about six feet before they stopped again.
"I'm not very good at this." Jack huffed.
"No, you're doing just fine." Dean told him, "Already better than Lexi."
"Hey!" The girl in the backseat scoffed, kicking the back of her brothers seat.
