•You and Ellie celebrate your 2 year anniversary•
"Dina. I don't like liars." You were having lunch with your good friend while Ellie was out on a "secret mission". It was you and Ellie's 2 year anniversary today, and Ellie had told you no gifts and to let her take care of everything. Of course you still got her something, a new sketchbook and a set of colored pencils you had found on your last patrol. You had wrapped them in brown paper from an old paper bag, scrawling all over them memories of you and Ellie.
Remember when I tried to make dinner and almost smoked out half of Jackson?
I knew I loved you when we were on patrol together and you threw an axe at a runner to save my life.
Someday I'll get you back for when you hit me in the face with a snowball.
Remember when you tried to make dinner and almost smoke out half of Jackson, in the middle of winter I might add.
The camping trip where we first told each other "I love you". Dina and Jesse were snoring in the tent nearby so it kinda ruined the moment but still memorable.
I love you Ellie Williams.
I love you.
I love you El.
I am so in love with you.
Dina assured you Ellie would love them, but you knew Ellie would've told her about whatever she was doing for you. And you being the nosy person you were, wanted to know. So here at lunch you were bugging Dina for any information she could give you. However, the dark haired woman wouldn't budge.
"Holy fuck. Is she going to propose???" You asked excitedly. You'd been waiting for Ellie to propose to you for a while now. Sure you'd only been together 2 years but you couldn't imagine your life without her, Ellie was your other half.
"I'm not telling you anything!" Dina grinned at you, Ellie was definitely going to propose.
"Dina please." You whined. She laughed at you and shook her head.
"Be patient (YN). You'll be rewarded for it." Dina winked at you. You groaned at her joke feeling your cheeks flush. "Wear the low cut shirt." Dina wiggled her brows at you.
"I don't have that shirt anymore." You put your ever reddening face in your hands.
"You loved that shirt!" Dina squeaked in outrage making you laugh.
"It was uh... ripped off of me." You laughed at the outrage on Dina's face.
"I gotta go, enjoy your anniversary!" Dina smiled, ruffling your hair as she left. You finished your cup of coffee leaving a generous tip before leaving to go and find your girlfriend.
When you got to the home you shared and found it empty you poured at the empty house. It was your anniversary and you have yet to see your girlfriend for more than ten minutes. You wandered to your closet picking out an outfit for tonight, deciding on the outfit you wore for the first date you and Ellie ever had.
"Do I look okay?" You asked your best friend Dina as you looked in the mirror.
"You look amazing, stop being so nervous you weirdo." Dina teased. You tugged at the long sleeve dark flannel you left unbuttoned and wore a tank top underneath it, a pair of jeans and your favorite boots. The summer was beginning to fade into fall but the nights were still warm.
"What if she doesn't like me." You scrunched up your nose at yourself.
"Dude she loves you. Chill, it'll be amazing. It's just a picnic and you're gonna be barely out of Jackson. It'll be okay." Dina comforted you, gently placing a hand on your shoulder. You took a deep breath, nodded, and then headed to the gates to meet the lovely red head. You smiled at the memory. You were so nervous back then, little did you know it ended up being one of the most romantic nights of your life. Ellie had lit an area in the woods with fairy lights and laid blankets out. She was a romantic at heart, and very few people knew that due to her dislike for PDA.
The front door to the house creaked open, and you grinned walking into the living room, leaning against the door way grinning at your girlfriend as she took off her boots.
"Hey you." You beamed at her. Ellie looked up at you, her magnificent green eyes shining with love. It made your heart swell at the sight.
"Hi gorgeous. Happy anniversary." Ellie smiled kicking padding over to you and gently kissing you.
"Happy anniversary, how was your 'secret mission'?" You asked wiggling your eyebrows at her. Ellie rolled her eyes at you leaning down and kissing you again, a little deeper this time.
"It was very secret." Ellie smiled mysteriously at you. Then she looked you up and down, sucking in a breath as she took in your outfit. "You wore that on our first date."
"I did, I wasn't sure if you'd remember." You teased, reaching up and twirling some of her copper hair in your fingers.
"I was nervous that you'd hate the date I set up." Ellie confessed, you laughed at that.
"It was the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me." You assured her.
"I guess I'll have to top it then." Ellie smirked, catching your chin in her fingers forcing you to stare into her lovely eyes.
"I fucking love you Ellie Williams." You sniffled being overwhelmed by the emotion. It filled you up completely and entirely.
"I love you too (YN). With my whole heart." Ellie smiled at you. You pulled her flush against you and kissed her soundly, opening your mouth for her as she moved you from the door way to the wall in the living room. As you played with the hem of her shirt someone banged on your door.
"Come on lovebirds! It's ready!" Joel chuckled from the other side of the door. You whined as Ellie pulled away from you and straightened her clothes and her hair. You did the same before quickly running to the kitchen and pulling the gifts from the top of the kitchen cabinets where you hid them.
"I thought I said no gifts." Ellie raised a scarred brow at you.
"I didn't listen because that's stupid." You joked bumping her shoulder with yours. You let Ellie lead the way to whatever this surprise is. "Where are we going El?" You inquired.
"We are almost there." Ellie beamed at you. When she stopped you outside the barn in the edge of Jackson, you could hear people inside. "Stay here."
"What's going on." You asked again. Ellie kissed your forehead and left without giving you an answer. The voices became hushed, and then Dina opened the door and took the gifts for Ellie from your shaking hands. Tears welled in your eyes as you looked around. All your friends and family filled the barn that was lit with the same lights from your first date with Ellie. Each of them holding a single wildflower. Dina grinned and handed you her flower.
"It's always been you." She said quietly, happy tears in her eyes. And she walked you around the room, everyone handing you a flower and saying "It's always been you." When the crowd finally parted and you had a bouquet of flowers in your hands you couldn't stop the tears that flowed down your cheeks. There was Ellie, holding the last flower. When she handed it to you, you couldn't stop crying as she got down on one knee.
"It's always been you (YN). You are my best friend, the love of my life, you've been there for me through my darkest moments and I cannot imagine my life without you. It's always been you, so, (YN) (LN). Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife and marrying me?" Tears welled in Ellie's eyes as she opened a small wooden box, in it a small silver band.
"Of course I will." You gasped. Ellie slid the ring onto your finger and lifted you off the ground kissing you soundly. The applause erupted around you, then music started, and the engagement party began.
After a few dances you retrieved the gifts for Ellie from Dina and tugged Ellie outside to the quiet night air.
"I know it's not a romantic proposal-" you started handing Ellie the gifts.
"I love it already." Ellie grinned as she read the writing on the paper. Laughing at the memories you had scrawled. "I'm not sure I want to rip this open."
"Do it please." You whined. Ellie rolled her eyes and opened it, gasping at the fine sketchbook inside.
"Holy shit (YN)." She breathed, you grinned at her as she opened it. On the first page you had sketched 2 stick figures vaguely looking like you and Ellie holding hands. A simple house behind you. Ellie laughed at the drawing kissing your cheek softly.
"Open the other one!" You grinned at her.
"Okay okay. So impatient Mrs. Williams." Ellie winked at you. You grinned at that, you and Ellie were getting married who knew when or where, but you knew it'd be perfect. Ellie opened the colored pencils softly running her fingers over the box.
"Do you like them?" You asked.
"I love them. And I love you." Ellie smiled, her eyes glassing over.
"I love you too, it's always been you."
