That evening, Devon and I sat out on our deck watching the sun set. It was one of our favorite things to do together.
"So, what is your gut feeling on the brothers?" Devon asked looking at me, he knew if I did not like them, or I was not comfortable they would not be staying. Devon wanted me to feel safe.
Especially when he was gone for four days out of the week for work. "Honestly love, I like them, I have a good feeling about them, but I think a trail run, sort of probation would work, what do you think?" I asked, I always wanted Devon to have just as much input in this place as I did.
"Sounds good to me love" he said as he stood up. Devon walked over to me and held out his hand. I took it and stood up, he pulled me close to his chest and we started to dance slowly on the porch as he hummed a song.
It was the first song I heard him do when he was cooking for me that first time, we were together. I laid my head on his chest, loving this moment. It was perfect, the crickets were chirping in the background as the sun was setting slowly.
Highlighting us on the porch as we were in our own little bubble that nothing could break.
Devon pulled back a bit, "Athena, there is something though that I do have to ask of you" he said. I stepped back just a hair and looked up at him, "what's that?" I asked curiously.
Devon got down on one knee and pulled out a ring box, he opened it up and there sat the most beautiful diamond sapphire ring I had ever seen. "Will you do me the honor of being my wife for all eternity?" he asked.
Tears ran down my cheeks, "I would love to be your wife for all eternity Devon" I said as he slipped the ring on my finger. He stood up and picked me up and kissed me as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
We went inside and spent the rest of the night showing each other how much we loved and cherished one another.
The next morning, Devon gave me a simple band to wear when I was working around the farm, he knew I wanted a ring to always wear, but I also did not want to get the main one dirty or lose it by mistake.
The brothers showed up for breakfast right on cue, as I was in the shower, Devon making pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast. I got out of my shower and went to the kitchen for my coffee.
I was pouring my coffee when I swore, I heard a growl, I stopped and slowly turned around. Devon was standing there with a look on his face, the three brothers were standing there staring at him.
I looked down and saw I was wearing nothing major, just shorts and a T-shirt, my normal clothes that I have worn a hundred times. I made sure it was not too short or that it would reveal anything.
"What's going on?" I asked curious as to what was going on. Devon walked over to me and wrapped his arms around me, "nothing my love, and he kissed me, I always loved his kisses.
"Okay then" I said after the kiss, I turned back and grabbed my coffee and sat at the kitchen table. The three brothers sat down after I did, I filled my plate as I was starving.
The silence was deafening. "Is everything okay with you four?" I asked, looking around at the guys as I started to eat. "Everything is great Athena" Tom said as he sipped his coffee looking at me and smiled.
I smiled back and went back to eating, must be some male thing, I chalked it up to being.
My first husband was not possessive or anything of that nature, he could care less of another man looked at me, so this was something new, but I loved that Devon was like that.
He was an alpha type of male and it was something that made me feel safe and loved and protected when I was around him. I would not change that fact ever.
