There was a knock at the door, I sat there drinking my coffee groaning, Tom and his brothers were out taking care of the animals and the garden barn for me today so I could just lounge around the house.
I got up and went to the door, since the knocking would not stop. I peeked out and saw it was Devon again.
Opening the door part way, "yes?" I asked him, "Ath, please let me talk to just you" he asked. "Let me grab my jacket and we can talk while we go for a walk" I said and before he could say anything, I shut the door.
I grabbed my jacket and put on my boots, since the ground was muddy in most areas. I also put on my fuzzy hat that Tom bought me when we were in town. I loved it so much and it was so warm.
I opened the door and Devon was standing there waiting for me, I shut the door after I left a note saying what was going on, I knew I would run into the guys, but I left it just in case I did not.
We walked for a bit, going down the trail that I made a few years ago, we passed by the barns, and I could hear Derek call Tom, I knew news would travel fast, Tom walked out of the barn, and saw who I was walking with.
Tom walked right over, Devon put up his hands, "before you say anything Tom, Athena agreed to let me talk but only if we went for a walk, so I presume that is why we are near the barns so you all would know" Devon said.
"Well, she is my girl, and you can't blame me for wanting to make sure she is good" Tom said looking at Devon. Devon got the message loud and clear with Tom standing over him.
"I don't want any trouble, Tom; I just need to get a few things clear is all then I will be on my way" Devon said.
Tom looked at me, "It's okay love, we are just going to walk towards the waterfall and back and that will be the end of it, that is all the time I am giving him" I said and kissed Tom.
He hugged me, "if you need me just call" he said and winked, I knew he had excellent hearing as did his brothers, who were standing close by watching everything that was going on.
They were just as protective of me as Tom was if not more sometimes.
Devon and I continued to walk towards the waterfall, "listen Ath, I'm sorry for what I have done, I have a secret that I have been hiding that I can't share with anyone, and it was getting to be too much for me.
But now that you are pregnant with my child, I am afraid it might pass on down to him or her, even though it shouldn't but I got scared and thought if I didn't say anything it wasn't real" Devon said.
I stopped and looked at him, "what in the hell are you talking about, do you have some health condition that might affect our baby?" I asked, starting to get scared.
"Yes and no" Devon said looking into my eyes, and then suddenly, I saw the same thing in his eyes that I would see in Toms from time to time.
"What the hell Devon, what is going on with your eyes also?" I asked backing up. "It's a condition a few of us have that are related in away" he said as we continued to walk.
We reached the waterfall, and I saw a large rock that was dry, and I sat down, "tell me what's going on Devon" I said.
He took a deep breath, "I knew Tom and his brothers from a long time ago, my family and their family lived on the same land if you can call it that" he said.
I sat there waiting for him to explain more but he just stayed silent. "What are you not telling me Devon?" I asked.
"There are things in this world that reality cannot explain Athena, some are born with a certain trait, and some aren't, like Tom and his brothers, and like me we were born without the trait but part of it lingers in our blood, which is why you can see things move behind out eyes certain times" Devon said looking at the waterfall.
"Wait, are you telling me that things like mythical creatures do exist?" I said with a smile on my face, until I saw the look on Devon's face and my smile fell.
"Wait, that can't be right, are you telling me my daughter or son might have a trait that they can change?" I asked.
"The child might develop certain traits yes, change no" he said, certain things like hearing and smelling and advantages can happen, but anything else no" Devon said, "in fact I shouldn't be telling you this stuff but since you are pregnant which shouldn't have happened because you are not of our clan, I couldn't inform you, that is why I went home" Devon said reaching for my hand.
I got up and backed away, "this is all too much Devon, I need time to digest this stuff" I said as I turned and walked towards the house. I passed the barn where the brothers were leaning against the barn watching me walk right past them and right into my house.
Devon was following me but at a distance, "so did you tell her the dirty little family secret that you are a mutt?" Derek asked laughing, Devon turned towards the brothers.
"In fact, I told her about all of us" he said. "You didn't, you know that's a death warrant" Darryle said getting pissed. "I spoke to the elders since she is with my child" Devon said getting irate at them.
"You better hope when Tom finds out that you told her, he doesn't sign your death card and if she accepts all of it, hope she accepts our brother because that is his mate, you stupid shit" Derek said.
"Accept what?" Tom said walking up to his brothers, "dumb ass over there says he had permission from the elders and told Ath, all about us" Derek said. Tom turned to Devon, "you didn't?" he said not believing this.
"It was time for Athena to know the truth since she is carrying my child" Devon said squaring back his shoulders.
