On our way back to the barn, Tom slipped on a ring onto my finger where my engagement ring was at. I looked down, it was a simple ruby stone that was incased by a silver moon.
"This was my mothers, and grandmothers, dad gave it to me to give to you after we consummated our vows" he said and smirked at the word, "is that the word your dad used? Consummated?" I asked giggling.
"Yes, and he turned a shade of red as he said it" Tom said and we both laughed, that man was something else.
"Thank you though I love it" I said and kissed him, the rest of the way we snuggled under the blankets and enjoyed the ride. Eternal was ready to head back to his barn.
Once there Derek and Darryle were waiting, Derek helped me down, "so who do these two beauties belong to?" I asked checking out the two draft horses.
"They are my gift to you my dear" Mark said from behind me, I jumped "damn it" I said laughing. This family has a way of sneaking up on me.
"Thank you so much Mark, I love them" I said and gave him a hug, once I stepped back Mark saw the ring and he turned my head to the side and saw the mark, it was the crescent shape of a moon.
"Well, I'll be damned" Mark said, "what, what's wrong?" I asked, looking at him, the smile on Marks's face was priceless.
"My dear, you and my son are mated and the goddess herself blessed it" he said as he picked me up into a big hug. I hugged him back.
I never really understood their laws or customs or anything of that nature since their bloodlines were as old as the earth but a rarity. The gifts that were bestowed upon them a long time ago have been gifted to only a few down the line.
It was an old wife's tale that people could shift, but they were given gifts that no one could explain or cared too anymore. It was just a given that they kept a secret from the rest of humanity.
But now I was a part of their world, it was just the same as ours, just a few more benefits added to the mix. Speed, strength, hearing, and eyesight were just a few of the benefits.
If people could believe in a god that had powers of creation and healing at a touch, why could not they believe that some people had gifts just as much as any other who claims to be known the future or the past and so forth.
We went inside and I went to the fireplace to warm up, sitting by the fire, Eric brought me over a cup of coffee. "What the hell Athena?" he asked, oh crap he must have seen the mark.
"What?" I asked him as I sipped my coffee. Eric looked at Mark, "you said no one was to mate with her this week, and of course you let your son do what he wants" Eric yelled.
"No yelling in my house" I said sternly, I was not about to have my baby woken up by that.
"Eric, you know as well as I do that Tom does what he wants, and I didn't tell him to go mate his soon to be wife anyway, they were bound to do that sooner or later" Mark said waking towards Eric.
I stood up, "listen, I wanted to be with Tom in that way and actually every way I can be, were you my first true love Eric yes, are there feelings still there deep down for you yes, I don't think I will ever get over those feelings. But it has been over twenty plus years since you and I have been together. Life has gone on and so have I, end of discussion, I mated with Tom and Tom is the one I am going to marry after new year's" I said walking up to Eric.
I saw that look in his eyes, oh how I hated that look, I only saw it once when some guys hit on me when Eric was getting off work and I was waiting for him. Eric has a look that if it could kill you, you would be dead.
