Finding Home

Chapter Nineteen

For the next hour, Devon and I fixed dinner together. It was nice having him home and spending time with him was always great. I put dinner on the table and set the plates out.

I sat down and so did Devon, "I wonder why the guys aren't here for dinner?" I said as I was putting the food on my plate. "No idea but this is fine just us, isn't it?" Devon asked, looking at me.

"Of course, it is love, just like it was a few days ago" I said smiling at him. We spent the next hour eating and talking about what had been going on around here and at his work.

"I have been thinking sweetheart, I put in for the ranger job this morning" he said, I looked at him, "are you joking with me?" I asked, wondering if he was playing with me, he knew I wanted him close to home.

"No love, I put in for a transfer to the station five miles from here, and I got accepted so it looks like I will be home every night" he said watching me.

I got up and went over to him and sat on his lap, I wrapped my arms around his neck, "that is the best news, I wanted you close to home and I got my wish" I said and kissed him with enough passion we forgot all about the rest of dinner and went to the bedroom for the night.

The next morning, I woke up to Devon in the kitchen making breakfast, I got up and got dressed and when I walked out, I saw Tom sitting there with his cup of coffee.

"Good morning" I said and went for my cup to get some coffee, "good morning sweetheart" Devon said as he kissed the top of my head while I poured my coffee.

"Good morning little one" Tom said watching Devon and me, I sat down next to Tom, "so where were you last night? You missed one hell of a dinner" I said wrapping my hands around the cup of goodness.

"We went out for the night, needed to blow off some steam" was all Tom would say on that, I saw Devon looking at him out of the corner of his eye.

"Oh okay, hope everything is okay?" I asked, "it is, don't worry Ath, we are very happy here and you can't get rid of us" he said and winked at me. I smiled for some reason that made me feel a lot better that they were staying,

"Oh Ath, the builders will be here in about an hour, and Tom was saying you asked for their help also in building it and they need to get with you about ordering bed sheets?" Devon asked with a puzzled look on his face.

"Yes, to both, I thought the guys would like to help build their house and I ordered furniture I just didn't know what kind of bed stuff they liked" I said as I went for more coffee.

"We figured it would be nice to have a woman's touch in the place" Tom said looking right at Devon with a "challenge me" look to his face. Devon finished breakfast and set it on the table.

"Are your brothers also going to be joining us this morning?" Devon asked. "No idea" Tom replied.

"I swear it's like two alphas competing over stuff, it's getting to be too much somedays around here" I said as I grabbed a plate full of eggs and bacon and grabbed my juice and went to sit on the front porch.

I shut the door as both guys started to argue over things that I had no idea what they were talking about. Sounded like guy stuff and I was not in the mood first thing in the morning to deal with it.

I saw Derek and Darryle walk up, "Good morning," I said as I started to eat, "Good morning, are you doing okay, Ath?" Derek asked as they walked onto the porch. "I'm good, just got to be too much male inside there" I said as I used my thumb and pointed over my shoulder to inside the house.

"That can happen with two males like Devon and Tom" Darryle said laughing, both went in and grabbed their breakfast and sat out on the porch with me. It was nice eating with the two guys in silence.

When we were finished the three of us sat on the porch just talking about nothing much, but it was nice. to have one of those kinds of conversations that don't require you to have to add to it if you didn't have anything to add.

After a bit I decided that my animals needed some me time, so I went in, not talking to either one, and put my stuff in the sink to clean later and left shutting the door.

I walked to the barn and fed the animals, after a bit I opened the door to their pasture. All the animals made their way out and were enjoying the morning sun. I went to check to see how their feed was going and if I needed to order more.

"Sweetheart" Devon said as he walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me, my back was against his chest, oh how I loved that feeling of him against me.

I turned my head to the side to look up at him, he looked down at me and smiled. "Have I told you how much I love you?" he said. I shook my head no, "well then let me correct that" he said as he bent down and kissed me.

We stayed like that for a few minutes, just Devon and me in our little bubble of happiness and love. After a few I could hear the equipment start to roll up, "and there's the builders" he said against my lips.
