She's back. No. Not again.I hide in my large cupboard closet, hoping that she won't find me again. I know what she's doing- I've been through it enough times to understand.
I just can't stop it.
"Hero!" Her soft voice calls out to me, making a chill run through my bones. "Darling!"
I'm breathing heavily and I know I must stop. If I hyperventilate again, she will find me. I can't let her do this again.
My breath brushes against the hard wood, making it echo. I can hear her footsteps as she draws near, the heels from her dancing class still on her feet.
I clasp my hand over my mouth-No! I'm too late!
The closet doors swing open revealing her soft, but terrifying face. I remember how kind she used to be, inviting me over for baking and playdates. But then, my grandfather left. That was when my fear started.
She has changed from her ballgown to her favorite camisole shirt that she saves for our afternoons together.
"There you are," She whispers, "You can't hide now. Your mother left. We need to make this fast."
I know I need to run. I need to run home and get away, but I can't. My grandmother loves me. No matter how much it hurts, I must not be like grandpa.
If I was to ever tell anyone what happened between us, she would be taken away.
Like she said; It was our little secret.
Now we get on to the actual book 😭😭
