Hey loves ❤❤ no worries. Hero is on the next chapter... or perhaps someone close to him 😲

When we made it to the dealership I wasn't expecting much. At the most, I was anticipating a cheap lot, filled with preowned cars.

Much to my delight, it was an entire dealership, with several sleek vehicles that I knew would cost more than a month's rent.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by an excited man with a tight outfit covering a beer belly. He listed a few of the popular choices, but didn't shy away from less popular brands.

I was worried about my credit but Cole assured me that it wouldn't be a problem.

I came across: Ford Fiesta's, Jeep's, Toyota trucks, and even Lamborghini's.

When I gaped at the ladder, Cole was quick to assure me that the company package came with assistance with monthly payments, but I wasn't about to accept the offer.

I had a strong feeling that he was pushing his luck with company policies, regarding me.

I tried to think about what Hero would prefer. Knowing him, he'd want me to get something stable. Something that would guarantee me safety.

I locked my eyes on a decent Kia Forte, happy with the model. It was white and sparkled in the afternoon sun.

"Are you sure about this one?" Cole asked.

I looked at it once more, knowing it would be a great duo with Hero's Ford Capri.

"Definitely."

Like the smart guy he was, Cole had ordered a company courier to pick up my car after he'd struck a deal with the salesman.

On our way to the office, my head was spinning. I'd had a free ticket to my license and car without having to lift a finger.

Really. How many companies were this giving?

When we made it past reception and into the stuffy office, I wasn't sure what to expect though Tawnee's disapproving stare wasn't on the top of my list.

"Cole," She scolded, "come with me."

Once Cole followed her with a bowed head, I headed right to the front desk where Brendan was snooping.

"Where have you been? Why did you just walk in with Cole?"

I shook my head.

"It's nothing serious. He called out for us."

Brendan frowned. "I know. I got the notice earlier today."

I felt guilty looking at his expression. He'd said that he didn't care who Cole dated, but I knew he still cared about him.

"You know I have a boyfriend." I stated firmly. "Cole has made it clear he wants to be with me, but I've shot him down every single time. We aren't happening."

I noticed the glitter on Brendan's cheeks as he picked at a set.

"I'm usually so good at playing it cool," he began, "but that man is such a tease. He lights this fire within me... but it's like he never notices me. I know he's not gay, but... if he could only be my first kiss..."

I held both his hands gingerly.

"You've never been kissed?"

Brendan flicked his lashes. "None that counted. I mean... I had a peck from a preschool crush, but we may as well have been good friends."

This suddenly inspired me.

"You'll get your first kiss eventually. It may not be from Cole, but I'm sure he wishes you well."

Before Brendan could reply, Tawnee materialized, with Cole speeding past her through the double doors. Her hawk eyes set on me, making me uneasy.

"Kristina. I need to see you in my office."

Brendan sent me a worried glance as I made my way down the hall. Once I took a seat, Tawnee leaned against the wall.

Oh dear this didn't look good.

What did I do wrong?

"Kristina," Tawnee sighed. "You're aware that you were scheduled to work today?"

I bit down on the inside of my cheek.

"Yeah, but I was hoping that you got the notice. I heard Cole filling out my absence for the day."

Tawnee huffed.

"I did get the notice, but that's not the point. I'm not irritated that you didn't show up. I just thought you and I were closer than that. If you'd texted me I would have felt a sense of respect."

I wanted to curse myself out. I didn't think about that.

"I'm sorry. This job is a blessing. I don't want to lose it... Cole offered to take me to the DMV and a car lot to make transportation easier. I couldn't pass up the opportunity."

Tawnee raised an eyebrow. "How did he manage that? He didn't push you into using your hard earned cash did he?"

"Oh, no," I grinned. "He used part of the employment package. He said that it covered monthly expenses."

Tawnee's breath hitched. "Monthly expenses for what? The car..?"

I nodded.

"No employment package..." Tawnee trailed off, staring off into space.

After a moment of silence, she went on.

"Look, I love you to death, but next time you call out... please let me know."

"Agreed. I won't fail you next time."

As I stood to head for the door, I paused.

"I know I'm not working today, but would it be okay for me to clean my office before tomorrow?"

Tawnee seemed short with me.

"Yes. Of course."

I was quick to make my way out and to softly close her door behind me.

Sorry about the lack of Hero 💔💔

Needed to create more of a character arc for Cole and people that care about Kristina ❤❤
