The mysterious man sipped on champagne as he sat on the overlook of a concrete wall.
How fortunate that he was able to sit so close at such an occasion, though it was a grave occasion, indeed.
He'd known her time was coming during the weeks she'd wasted away, though it didn't stop him from relishing in the fact that he'd had control over her for many years.
She had been a striking young girl, nothing more than the average heir, but how lucky were his stars that Diedre would give up her own daughter for a chance to strive and strive she did.
Crazy that even Diedre had been as sick and twisted as he had been, taking her aggressions out on her only grandson.
Nevertheless, Dorinda had grown old and shriveled away. The excitement had gone. He needed to entertain himself once more.
As they lowered the large casket down into the earth, he thought about the many lies she'd spouted.
How her son was to be the next in line and how his girlfriend was nothing of consequence.
My oh my, had she been wrong. His, now wife, was more than a looker.
She resembled the beauty Dorinda had once had, minus the hair differences.
When he had finally seen the girl, Dorinda had sworn that she was a dear friend from upstate New York that she rung from time to time.
She'd tried her damndest to keep him away from her, but he couldn't fathom why.
Dorinda detested the woman at every turn. Unless of course...
She hadn't detested her at all.
Had she merely been shoving her out of their inner circle out of fear?
Well, there was nothing she could do now.
The man pulled a tattered photo of Hero and Kristina from the pocket of his slacks, admiring the beauty. No. Not Hero.
He would have to go.
He folded the picture, tearing it at the crease. He discarded the half with Hero's face, eyeing the half with his new target. In time, she would be his.
Thumbing the girl's beautiful face, he eyed the scene in front of him.
What a dark sight it was.
