I sat at the diner across from my boyfriend. Boyfriend seemed like a bit of an understatement, seeing as we'd been together for years. Boyfriend seemed like the first year or so of a relationship, or something that a high schooler had. Partner was a better word for what he was to me.

This partner of mine had seemed jumpy and nervous this entire Valentine's date. He had graciously planned everything for our date this night. I reached out and grabbed his hand where it was resting on the table.

"Are you alright, Steve?" I asked.

Steve looked up at me and smiled.

"Yeah, I'm fine," he said.

I didn't believe him but didn't want to push it. I took a bite of my meal, watching Steve. His eyes were darting between me and his food. He didn't really eat anything and when it was time to go, he grabbed my hand and led me out of the diner.

We walked together in silence towards the park. This was where we had first met when I bumped into him while on my morning jog.

"Do you remember how we met?" I asked.

Steve smiled warmly.

"Of course, I do. You smacked straight into me," he chuckled.

I smack his arm lightly.

"That's because you didn't get out of the way," I grumbled.

"Yes, and then you fell to the ground," Steve said.

"I guess you could say I fell for you," I mused.

Steve just chuckled again and kissed me on the head. We walked down the path and Steve stopped us near the lake.

"This is the exact place where we met," Steve said.

"You can faintly still see the imprint of my butt in the gravel," I joked.

Steve laughed again. I loved making him laugh.

"When we first met, you didn't even recognise me as Captain America. When you figured out who I was, you didn't treat me any differently. You have always made me feel like Steve Rogers instead of Captain America," Steve said.

I gasped as Steve knelt down on one knee and held out a ring box. He opened it and inside was a beautifully cut jewel with small diamonds circling the ring.

"I would be the happiest man alive if you would allow me the honour of being your husband," he said.

I nodded frantically, tears springing to my eyes. Steve stood up and placed the ring on my finger. I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him tightly.

"I love you, Steve," I choked out.

"I love you, too, y/n."
