I tensed at the knock on my door. I quickly stood up from my couch and grabbed the gun from my coffee table. I made my way to the door and looked through the peephole. I relaxed as I recognised my best friend, Sam Wilson. I opened the door and received a hug.

"Happy Valentine's Day," I said.

Neither of us had a Valentine so we decided to spend the day together. As friends. Even if I wished it wasn't.

"Does everyone else have a Valentine?" I asked, putting some popcorn in the microwave.

"Yeah, even Bucky has one," Sam grumbled.

I giggled. I loved the little feud Sam had with his fellow teammate. I knew that they were great friends, but they just loved to tease each other.

"Who's Bucky's Valentine?" I asked over the sound of popping kernels.

"Steve," Sam admitted.

I laughed loudly.

"I told you! You owe me twenty!" I exclaimed.

Sam rolled his eyes and pulled a twenty-dollar bill out of his back pocket. I plucked it out of his grip and smiled innocently at him. Sam frowned playfully and I began to laugh again.

The popcorn finished and we sat down to watch the movie. Was Sam sitting closer to me than usual? No, he couldn't be. I was probably just imagining it.

I'd had a crush on Sam ever since he'd saved me from falling to my death during a mission for Shield. Now that he was sitting so close to me, it made my heart do weird flutters in my chest. I felt like I was on the verge of a cardiac arrest.

Halfway through the movie, Sam yawned and placed his arm around my shoulder.

"That's the oldest trick in the book, Sam," I said.

"What is?" he asked.

I just rolled my eyes and snuggled into him. I felt him tense for a moment before relaxing. His arms tightened around me. We continued watching the movie and I snuck glances at him from the corner of my eye. At one point I caught him staring at me, and we both looked away.

I didn't watch the movie at all. At one point, someone got stabbed, and I was very confused because I could have sworn that person didn't have a knife before.

Eventually the movie finished, but I didn't want to move from Sam's side. He removed his arm from my shoulders and stood up and stretched.

"Well, I should probably get moving," Sam said.

"Yeah," I said quietly, following him to my door.

"Oh, before I leave," he began.

Sam turned around and kissed me. I kissed back, my hand finding his cheek while his wrapped around my waist.

"That was nice," I said once he'd pulled away.

Sam just chuckled.

"Happy Valentine's Day, y/n."
